Is this a stiff...TAMRON 18-400mm

I tried to shoot a semi-pro football team practice and had a problem. Trying to zoom in and out was like fighting with a broken arm. It is so stiff/tight that you miss half of what you want to shoot. By the end of the day I had cramps in my hand from attempting to zoom in and out. I have had this lens for a while and it seems to be staying the same way...A STIFF! Anyone out there with the same problem or do I just have a bad lemon from the bunch? It is not getting any easier with the use of the lens..... TAMRON a little help please or is this normal? Going to check out their site to see if I can get an answer to my dilemma or de-lemon.

Mine is stiff from about 35-200 . . . it has always been this way. I've read several reviews on this lens where they mention this. it might be due in part to it's weather proofing. I'd rather have it a little stiff than too loose. Just have to live with it . . . still a pretty good lens . . .

Our copy is stiff as well, but then we expected that and did not purchase it for sports photography.

The Tamron crop sensor formatted 18-400mm lens can be used for sports, but is not a sports lens. If you are fully committed to fast action sports, I suggest you get the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 G2. And you'll be happier.

I have all kinds of L lens for sports... Just wanted to try it out due to it's size and weight. Good for daylight football but I guess this was a learning experience.... Maybe good for shooting hish speed checkers....maybe?

Get a Sigma 18-250 like I have for my Canon T7I. Works great!

I'm shooting with the 7D MKII have the L series 70-200mm, 100-400mm, 300mm, 100mm and 200mm. Just wanted to see how it worked out. Spoke to TAMRON customer service and they said that the lens is stiff in the middle.
Lets see if it loosens up after using for a while.

You can't get much better than having Canon's L lenses. You'll still enjoy the 18-400mm though.

Tamron manufacturing tolerances are not as good as Nikon, Canon, and Sony. Never have been, never will be. You get what you pay for.

Spoken like a true Nikon bigot. Nikon and Canon and Sony and Tamron...
..and I am an owner and user of all four...make great photo gear. But not 100% of the time. All four have had their bad products, as well as home runs. It's not as black and white as you narrow mindedly profess.

All lenses with" lots of zoom" require very heavy engineering {read $$$$$}, or compromises or both.

And I said nothing about engineering. Reread my post, engineering was not mentioned ONCE. Tolerances are not as tight as for Nikon, Canon, and Nikon. Tight tolerances cost MONEY. Something third party glass CANNOT afford. Case closed. And yes, you get what you pay for.
