Remembering a desert Frontier Family.

In the desert of Arizona in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge you will find what remains of the Hovatter Ranch. They were a frontier family that loved the desert and chose it as their home, they had hardships, but they loved the land and made it work. We recently rode our ATV's out to what remains of their homestead and to pay our respects to their graves which are on the site. I took many photo's and felt a sense of awe at what they accomplished out there in that desolate place. I am attaching a link if you are interested in their story, in my opinion it is well worth the read.

This was the entrance to their ranch, it is a circle of Saguaro and Ocotillo cactus.

Garden edge, it amazed me at all the flat rocks they collected to create this fence.

The gravesites. There are actually 3 graves here, Mr. Hovatter, one of his daughters and his wife since upon her death her ashes were spread atop the two graves.

Thank you Donna, they definitely had many trials in their lifetime!
Very nice....its just amazing the absolute hardships American pioneers endured in the desert southwest and other areas of the west while settling this country, not sure if Americans are up to a task like that today (IMHO).

Thank you Blaster34, It would be difficult for sure! Like most things some would excel and rise to the challenge while others would perish!
