Frist time shooting birds.

This is my first try shooting birds. Was sitting in the back yard earlier and shot a few. It is really hard to find, focus, shoot, before thy fly off.

Good for first time Cam79. I am just starting too. The little finches around here are very fast-moving, and hard to focus/keep in frame. Keep shooting.
What metering mode are you using? I use spot metering for the small ones. #2 is fine, but the other two are underexposed (I'm sure you know this). You're not alone in this either!
#3 is a nicely-composed shot! Did you shoot in RAW, and if so, did you try to recover any exposure of the bird?
Keep going👍

Fever coming on! If you're shooting Nikon, check out http://backcountrygallery.com/secrets-nikon-autofocus-system/

Lots of great tips and camera settings with video.

The underexposure of #1 & #3 was most likely caused by the camera reading the sky for exposure.
In situations like these, I usually crank in around +2 EV to compensate for the sky.

Thanks to all for your comments. These are all SOOC Jpegs. No PP. Haven't done any of that yet. I am shooting with Nikon P900 and was set on Scene - Bird watching. Like I said, it was my first attempt on birds. If they would follow commands and sit there longer it would help.

You've been bitten by the bug, now prepare for MAJOR GAS ATTACKS. I never really did any bird photography in my film days. At 4 fps with Minolta X700 and manual focus 500mm f8 mirror lens I wasn't very successful. When I went digital all things changed. Started with a CanonT5 and kit lenses. Now have a 7D and 7d II with a couple of decent lenses EF-S 50-250mm and a EF 70-300mm both with IS and a Kenko 1.4 converter. Saving for some L glass now, you'll find that you never have enough reach for birds. Check out the BIF section a lot of good people there to help you along the way. Enjoy and practice practice practice.

Good job, Cam! They're good shots, especially the chickadee....they move around so much that is almost impossible to get a good shot of them...at least for me!
