A smile for today, I hope. I don't know what the intent was. Maybe drying out?

👍😀

Yep, absolutely, that’s one fairly damp Heron, right there. Reminds me of a fly fishing guided patron, who disregarded my warning about where to step on the freestone river we were fishing... and ended up “floating his hat”. 😱

Thanks for the comments, BB4A. Somehow I wonder if he floated more than his hat!

Great shots. I chased one around a pond for 4 hours once. they don't always pose for you.

Much easier driving up in a car. They either pose or fly away. This guy was preoccupied with drying off, I guess. 4 hours! That is perseverance!

You need to appeal to their primal instincts.

Visit favorite fishing spots in the Mid-West, and ask the Anglers where the Herons beg; your are sure to find all the ingrate Herons, waiting for a free meal. No need for long range lenses at these spots, so long as you sit and have a fishing rod with you, they will come up and beg within a few yards of you. 😎

It is nice to see shots of a Heron that is in a more "normal" condition. Drying off is an essential part of life for any bird that hunts in the water, and these are nice images of that. We see a lot of beauty shots of Herons, so this is a refreshing change. Well done!

Great set, Katy and they see to assume this position fairly often--- probably to dry and warm!

These are wonderful captures, Katy! You did an excellent job on focus, composition and lighting!

All the things necessary to capture a flasher in action.

I’ve seen Great Blues doing this and it is truly an unusual (and not terribly flattering) pose. You did a good job on these and made it interesting, too!
