Just purchased a factory refurbish D5500 with a one-year warranty but I would like to have the accident protection as I am an avid hiker who may occasionally take a fall. Camera shop that sold it to me though Amazon says I have to get it from Amazon. Don't see anything like it on Amazon. Please help. I have to buy the warranty within first 30 days.
Why not insure it via your home insurance policy. All of my equipment is insured via my home policy (attached schedule)

On impulse, I have added squaretrade coverage at time of purchase with B&H for a couple things. I've never used it.

The goal with insurance is that you will not need it. It gives you peace of mind "IF"
Squaretrade made it attractive to enhance selling one of my lenses.
I have a $500 deductible--more than I paid for the camera. Thx.

And that's the whole basis for the insurance industry.
Another large reputable warrantee company is Mack Camera. Compare with Squaretrade on prices, coverage, service, etc.

Not really. Suppose your house burned down or your car was stolen and all was insured you would be one happy little camper. Like any business, profit is not a dirty word. It pays investors, salaries, matching SS and Medicare payments. Most don't think those matching monies are part of their benefits/salary package.

Kind of defensive over a simple enough statement.
I have a low-cost All-Risk policy with USAA that covers cameras, lens, camera accessories, firearms, and jewelry. Covers damage, mysterious disappearance, theft, etc. Some years ago I opened the lift-gate on my SUV and my Nikon D90 with lens rolled out and fell to the driveway. Nikon's estimate to repair was $1,700.00. USAA said they would fund a new camera for $1,850. Oh, and there is no deductible.

Typically the separate camera insurance rider on your homeowner’s insurance policy will or can have a zero deductible. You may want to check with your agent.

Not really. Perhaps you didn't like my response. That doesn't make it "defensive" just a different view.
