I managed to seriously break my left wrist last Saturday . . . means I won't be playing golf for a few months. First I was thinking I'd be unable to take pictures either but then I thought of a monopod. So I need your expert suggestions. I take mainly wildlife pictures. My current camera is a Canon Rebel usually with a Canon 70 -300 mm.I'd like to buy something that will be sufficient even if I step up and invest in heavier equipment.
I also think I also would like collapsible feet on it but I'm not sure.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

As a monopod user, 2 hands are still necessary to hold the camera steady. If you can still do that with your broken wrist and plan to use the monopod to help with the weight, the monopod can certainly help. But if you really can't use the hand at all a tripod is necessary. BTW I wish you a speedy recovery

Sally, Hope you mend quickly. You want lightweight and that is carbon fiber. Secondly you need some support so you can use one hand. That means stabilizer feet.Sirui is a quality brand.
I would suggest:

You might want to take a look at this:
https://www.cottoncarrier.com/products/steady-shotIt's a system than you can use even after your wrist mends.
I don't think a monopod will provide what you are looking for. You still need two hands most of the time. With the Cotton Carrier harness, you just need a second pair of hands to help you get it on and the camera set up on the support. After that you just need the one hand.
I should have noted that I do have use of my fingers and thumb. . .I just can't support the weight of my camera with my left hand. I'll check out the suggestions offered so far. Thanks and please don't stop the suggestions.
Congratulations to all who offered helpful suggestions to Sally. It was genuinely encouraging to read these responses without the (seemingly) constant sniping and criticizing of each other's posts. I joined this forum to learn about photography from others with similar interests; not with the goal of reading ego rants and fault-finding. Thanks again to all for showing the helpful spirit and positivity that's often been missing. I'm certain that Sally also appreciated it. Thanks Sally, for the space here to “opinionize" and have a speedy and successful recovery.

I think you'll find as I have that although UHH does have some snipers, the majority are great people who willingly give their time to help others. It's my go-to spot when I need help or advice. Have a great day!

I have a monopod with a fold out extension that I can step on to keep it in place. That might help with stability. I bought mine on ebay a decade ago. There must still be some out there.

Thanks. That's what I'll look for.
