I received my new Ef70-300 f/4-5.6 IS II USM today. I am very happy with the clarity. The feel of the barrel when zooming is tight and smooth turning. The af is quick & precise. Overall I would say a 100% improvement from the old 70-300 I have. Here is a photo from about 45 feet away in direct sunlight with only some cropping and lighting adjustments.
It may not be Canons L glass, but I think it is comparable in photo quality.

The non L 70-300 IS USM is optically almost if not just as good as the L version. The L version, of which I own one, is weather sealed and build much tougher than the non L version, but IQ wise, the non L version is a great lens.

Yes, I was pleasantly pleased to see the results of this much less expensive lens. The nano usm is really smooth and fast. This one will be in my regular carry bag.

How much? Where did you buy it? I already have a Sigma 18-250....any sense in even THINKING about buying this for my Canon T7I?

I do not have a sigma for comparison so I could not say. I would suggest a rental to see if there is a significant difference.
But this lens is perfect for my bindle.
I bought this on Amazon. They have always been great about returning if needed, even with 2nd party sellers. I registered the lens with Canon no problem. And Iā€™m not concerned with the warranty. The price was $368.

I've had the first version of that lense for so long unsure when I got it. Still today a go to for me often today and it works just as good today as whenever I got it.

It would be nice to know what camera system you are you are trying to use a new lens with. Are you just recommenda lens that you use.

I like that lens a lot!!! I especially like its light weight!!! And, I, too, was surprised by the quality of photos I am getting from it photographing birds from my kayak!

For all who have replied, thanks for the encouragement. I too have the older version of the lens and have great respect for its capabilities. That lens will now go to my nephew who is developing his newfound interest in photography. I have the lens on my 7DII right now and it makes me want to just go use it. But the dang surgeon wants to see me again today.
So yes, it is a recommendation. You can buy used/refurbished And still get a quality piece of equipment at a reduced price. And it is also saying that this lens proves to me that Canon was a right choice for me. It makes me happy.

Unsolicited advice. Take it for what it's worth:
The middle back of the bird is the sharpest point of focus, and the head and beak are not as sharp.
Suggest that you focus on the most important part of the subject, especially with the tiny depth
of focus with a lens of this length and relatively long distance to subject. >Alan
