I agree. Very sad, both the accident and the guy making money from it on youtube.

Sad. I saw this report on National TV News as well. Harnesses are for safety, but in this case it was not. Even with a knife, it would have virtually been impossible to cut all 4 points of the harness to escape.

I didn’t see any ads; he said he’d turned them off because “this is not what this is about.”

There were no ads that I saw or heard. He said they were turned off. I thought the video was informative regarding specifics about sightseeing helicopter photography tours, especially the info regarding the harnesses. I wasn't aware that there were tours that flew you harnessed in with the doors open for picture taking. He talked alot about a friend of his that went on one of those tours and how they really didn't give a whole lot of training on the harness or releasing, sounds like they kind of glossed over it. Also mentioned a tour he went on out west as well.

Knowing that info now, it kind of explains why the pilot got out and none of the passengers taking photos did. Upside down in the water after a emergency crash landing with little or no training beforehand on how to escape if you did crash in water pretty much explains why they didn't get out. These are tourists on a photo adventure that just crashed landed in the Hudson River. Seeing where the release was behind their back, knowing they were probably scared as hell upside down in a sinking helicopter, I am sure the fear going through them contributed as much to their death as the lack of expertise in getting out. I think Jared did a good job of reporting on this tragic accident, and if anything, it seems to show that maybe these photo helicopter tours need to provide a little more escape instructions for the passengers.

Maybe the talker should STFU and instead, share his wisdom w/ the FAA and NTSB.

A terrible tragedy. I’m a Aircraft Tech but I have little Helicopter experience but the company I work with operates two Eurocopters one which is a AS350. I spoke with one of our Helicopter pilots who mentioned the Emergency fuel shutoff lever. This lever is pulled upwards and cuts off fuel supply. It requires only one action to active which is beyond me.
Usually devices like this have a detent or something additional to require activation. The mentioned that this is not the first time this caused an accident. The lever is located between the pilot seats and can be easily inadvertently activated. Being at such a low level there was no time to relight or restart engine.
The other issue he mentioned was the possibility of the floats installed incorrectly causing them to inflate on the inner part of the skid and not outward spreading the weight of the Helicopter out. This may be why the Helicopter rolled over. If it remained upright they may have survived.
I really don’t have any information on the harness. As with all the accidents there is always many things to lead up to it. It always my hope that if it’s due to any human factor that it is shared among us professionals to make sure it never occurs again.

Just added some information to all those who use Helicopters for tours or business. Not sure why that’s a problem

The commentator in the video is the one who should STFU and give his 'wisdom' to NTSB and FAA.

BTW, the FAA has niggling and not so niggling regs about safety restraints. The official reports will be interesting as will the inevitable lawsuit(s).
