I print a lot of B&W prints on the Canon pro 100;recently they have a green cast to them.As far as I can tell I have not changed any thing. Also color prints come to LR black and white and I have to then hit reset to get them back to color. Help!

First guess is that you got both the printer and Lightroom trying to manage the color. Turn one or the other off.

In Lightroom the V key switches between bw and color. Print a test page and make sure ALL 8 cylinders are firing correctly. The printer uses color ink to produce "black and white".

A common technique is to make a "virtual copy", use the "V" key and then adjust as appropriate for B&W.

Jed - you may not be aware that UHH has a special section to help with printing problems. Access it by clicking on the “All Sections” link at ghe bottom of this page. Scroll down the fairly long list and click on the section marked “Printers and Color Printing. It’s free to join that section. Repost your question there and knowledgeable folks will help you sort out your problem. Yes, even for B&W prints. Good luck. /Ralph

Have had the same problem with both pixma pro 9000 and 9000 mark II. Finally gave up and made printer adjustments tweaking cyan and magenta. This is after two calls to Canon customer support (who are very helpful but couldn't figure out why, after a year of use, my 9000 II started printing off color.) Going to replace with Pro 100 which is available new on Craig's list for around $150 which is just about the cost of ink. (and includes a package of 13 x 9 paper). It is just throwing away the huge printer that hurts.

These black and white color casts are often causes by poor monitor calibration.

This doesn't necessarily explain why things suddenly change, and I don't know how severe your color cast is, but I have found that 1. some papers print with a color cast and others don't and 2. some lighting causes a color cast and some don't. In my tests I have narrowed it down to being caused by optical brighteners in the paper. If I print B&W on paper with no optical brighteners I get pleasing B&W prints. As stated above - run a nozzle check and be sure you don't have a problem with clogs.

I concur with JR above that perhaps your problem lies with your paper. Did you perhaps open a new box? I have found that colour casts are not perfectly equal from box to box of the same paper.

Have you tried cleaning the head? That can be done using the maintenance s/w that came with he printer. There are 2 levels of cleaning. If deep cleaning does not get rid of the green, run the nozzle check. It is possible to replace the print head if that doesn't help.
FWIW one of the tanks is Black. It is used for the deepest black when printing photos and, IIRC, the black needed for text documents. The color mixing is done for shades of gray.

I talked with Canon and took the inks out and the print head out then replaced it . The PM was not printing and when that was resolved the green tint went away.

I was getting some strange print head problems on a Pro-100 that was a few years old. Prices for a new print head or to have it serviced were more than replacing the printer under the promotion that was current. The "new" printer was able to use the partially used cartridges from the "old" printer. The effect was that for the price of the printer I got a big rebate card, 50 sheets of paper and a full set of spare ink.
