Watch Photoshoot first try

Apart from my photography hobby I also like collecting watches. Vintage ones are my favorite but new models also find a place with me. It had never occurred to me to start documenting them through photos so I tried to do so and grabbed my camera today. These were handheld, natural available light with the Canon 5d IV, and Canon 100mm f/2.8 L macro lens.

How did you prevent glare? Photos excellent documentation.

Proved to be tricky. I have an open terrace at the back of my house and chose this location to shoot over a table. Since the terrace is wide open light kind of diffuses from all directions. I surrounded the watch with some tall books to create even less direct light on it and used some wooden find boxes to create a nice background. Sometimes I needed to move the watch around to get the best angle and eliminate harsh highlights.

Hi, Oscar,
Your tactics to avoid glare and to use DOF to best advantage succeeded well. I particularly like the complementary effect of the yellow-orange gold versus reflected daylight blues.
An interesting, well-accomplished series.

Very good set. I'm quite fond of watches myself, pocket and wrist. These are quite high quality, advertising oriented photographs.

BTW, having a photographic record of your collection can be invaluable should you ever need to make an insurance claim.

Thanks for looking! Nice to know some folks share my interest in watches. I will post a few more in separate threads.

I like the whole set. The subjects, while I know nothing about watches, are interesting. The last shot in this set was particularly impressive in that everything is sharp. Really sharp. Viewed the enlarged version and it really came to life. Nice.
