Adding a Nikon 55-300 to my D7000 package. Not happy with the older nikkor 18-200 that came with my D70s package

Had one...maybe consider a good 70-300.

I know the P lenses are not for the D7000.

I don't think I've ever seen a 70-300 F2.8 from any mfgr.

Great, but why do I care what you add to your package? You should make this information available to your wife.

If you haven't already made the purchase, I would suggest the 28-300mm. I assume the 55-300 is a dx lens. The 28-300 is an fx lens. The advantage is that you shoot through the center, sweet portion of the lens, missing any chromatic abnormality of the edges, plus it is wider. The 28-300 is a favorite of many on UHH. I purchased it when I purchased my D7000. To tell you the truth, the D7000, 28-300, and my Tamron 10-24mm would have been all the gear I really needed. The 28-300 crops very well.

I own a Nikon J3 and I do not recommend it for travel. It has no electronic viewfinder, only the LCD screen on the back and when you take pictures in bright sunlight the reflections on the LCD often prevent you from knowing exactly is in or out of the photo.

Why not happy? I own the 18-200 lens and I am satisfied with the quality I get. Do you know how to use the lens? Are you doing your part when you use it?
If you are not getting good quality from your 18-200 I bet you will not be happy with the 55-300 either. If creeping is what bothers you it does not bother me.
These are recent images I have made with my lens.

I have the 55-300 AF-s DX VR. I bought it factory refurbished for under $200. I have never regretted my purchase. I also have a 70-300 which is an AF with no focusing motor (I have to focus by hand). I switch them often to see the differences in the IQ. There is no sense sticking with a lens if it doesn't give you what you want.

I was lucky enough yesterday to walk into our local camera store and find a used boxed Nikon 16-35 F4 VR which I have been wanting to get for about 3 years. It was as good or better than new and will be on my D800 almost permanently . The best thing was it was priced at $699.99.
