A Question about lighting

I posted this the other night, just about when The Oscars were starting, silly me. Maybe I can get some traction this time. At any rate, what do you think?

I have been playing around in my basement tabletop "studio" and the other night I broke out the ETTL flash, just to see what would happen. You will see that the first image is OK, but the second is much better--truer to the actual bell in color.

Both images were shot at .8 second, f16, 100 ISO, I used my EOS 6D. Also the bell was set on a pedestal inside a light tent. The lights outside the tent were 2 CFLs at 5500K, 2 LEDs at 5500K, and a light shining through the top. The only difference is the flash set on ETTL on the second, so I do not know what setting it used. It is a Yongnuo EX565.

What I do not understand is why is the second one so much "warmer" than the other. I would have thought the flash would wash out, or over expose, the bell, but it appears that just the opposite happened.

What's up with that?

Thx, olc

I see no one else is responding and I'm sorry but I just don't know. I wish I could help but its outside my expertise.

Chefneil, have you seen info on the newest UHH forum, "Advice from the Pros" ? You might want to try posting your question and photos there, especially since several of the participants do studio work. Here's the home page:
