You don't, on camera.
To read your shutter count requires aftermarket software. Or you can send it to Canon and they will tell you for a fee.

If you use Windows, then EOSmsg is reliable, a small license fee per individual camera: http://www.eosmsg.com/

If it is a 7D mk I you could also install Magic Lantern, which is free, and will add a whole bunch of functionality to your camera, including the ability to display shutter count information in the menu screens: http://www.magiclantern.fm/

Direstudios, as mentioned previously, works for Apple Mac and iOS products.

Take a small JPEG and upload it to https://www.camerashuttercount.com/

Completely free and covers just about any camera.

Except for Canon cameras that do not put shuttercount information in EXIF data.

On 7/14/2016 I purchased the license from DIREstudio, to use shuttercount, PC version (I do not have Apple); the price for it was $2. It works well on 7D, 7Dii, 70D, 5Diii, 6D, it is worth it in mho, you have the link posted by the first responder. Also, Magic Lantern will read the shutter count on some Canon models and it is free.

Are you sure it's still available for Windows? I don't see any mention on the website.

Go to camerashuttercount.com, download your most recent image where is says to choose file, when it is their, load it. The time varies but it will spit out the info you seek.

I have tried this site and have always received the caption; "your camera doesn't supply the necessary information" I have a Nikon D610. When I go to Flickr the count is displayed under EXIF, 5459. Go figure. I have the answer.

No, not for Canon cameras, it only works if the shuttercount information is in the EXIF data.

Also it needs to be an unmodified image that hasn't had the EXIF data stripped out on Nikon and other brands.

It does for Nikon, but not a comprehensive list for Canon.

Just wondering: why don’t cameras show shutter count? Seems like a simple software odometer could do the trick.
