I’ve been shooting Nikon slr since I was 14 (a long time ago) FE,F2A,f100,d100,d700,d4. Years ago I thought about switching to Canon but didn’t over cost of lenses, flashes and so forth. Now I’m thinking of going to mirrorless (size, weight, tech,ISO’s,VIDEO)
It’s clear as mud w full frame, crop, micro 4/3. Looking for a bit more simplicity. I’ve always carried a28-80 and (my fav lenses in the world)80-200 2.8ed. Recently got a prime 300 and 2x for shooting hummers. I love shooting sports and candid. Looking for thoughts on mirrorless. Thanks for feedback!

Nice. I’m looking into the Sony a7riii or the new Sony a7iii. Yes, the video features are really good and also the new Sony bodies like the riii and iii have 10fps shooting. Good luck!

Only catch w Sony full frame is you’re still carrying (heavy) lenses. Recently at a school production and my 8 yr old son couldn’t Even lift the D4 w 80-200 2.8 and d700 flash. Don’t want to be in same situation w sony

That’s true... the body is so small compared to the weight with a 70-200 2.8 and a flash. That’s why a normal shell body might help to distribute the weight.

Fujifilm
Olympus
Panasonic
Sony

Read reviews online. Watch YouTube videos on the gear. Rent to try before you buy.

Each brand has a distinct market niche, so you have to decide what’s important to you.

GREAT lenses? All of them make some pro quality glass. Fujinon, Panasonic Leica, Olympus Pro, Sony Zeiss... plenty of choices now, with many more on the way.

Best JPEGs? Fujifilm.

Weight savings? Olympus or Panasonic.

Full frame? Sony.

Simple menus? Panasonic.

Great, classic ergonomics? Fujifilm and Panasonic.

Best video? Panasonic and Sony, but in different circumstances.

It goes on and on... Don’t try to make mrrorless into dSLR, or digital into film. Both are very different worlds, but it’s all photography.

I went from Canon and Nikon systems to Panasonic, because I make an even mix of stills and video, and I need to travel light. Your needs may vary.

One of my thoughts is that it is against the grain on UHH to consider cameras that are not full frame DSLRs. But, there can be simplicity with less size and weight. And of course like anyone else, I can only offer thoughts on what I own.

My primary solution is a Panasonic GX8 and with a Panasonic 14-140 lens. It provides the size, weight and video improvements but it can be used in all the traditional complex ways. Simplicity comes with a twist of the dial to one of the Auto settings. Auto is routinely dismissed as bad technique here. With Panasonic, a lot of the "tech" emphasis/engineering is with capable auto settings. (14-140 is the full frame equivalent field of view to 28-280)

My secondary solution is a Panasonic LX100. It is even smaller and lighter. Photographic settings are on external dials! And it is full of the same tech stuff.

Welcome to UHH. Sounds like you have GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome. My suggestion is pass the GAS and stick with what you got.

G85 with 12-60 and the new 50-200. That'll cover 24-400mm in FF equiv. with just 2 lenses. Fill in with some fast primes as needed.

B n H had the Fiji XT-1 with the (I believe) 18-55 for $899.99 last week.
Took a little bit of restraint on my part not buying for a 2nd camera.

If you want a truly unique and enjoyable digital experience with a retro twist, you can’t go wrong with Fuji.

For over 50 years I was a Nikon user. But then a few years ago I was using an entery level Olympus pen as a point and shoot and the size and weight along with the results lead to thinking along the mirrorless route

Ended up eventually selling my d700 and all the lens while they still had value and have been using an OMD-EM 1 and have never looked back

This has popped up again seems many have the same thoughts
MU-43 I’m all Olympus it’s an awesome system with great images results!
And when out for art landscape Birding in clouding BIF or just putzing around the house and vacations I take the Olympus
I still shoot HS sports and my D5 and D500 go with me as the high iso is far superior to the Mu-43

Yes, but in a pinch it will work...especially the em1ii or the g9.
