San Onofre State Surfing Beach CA (cont)

Another UHH member (Brent Harder) and I got together the shoot surfers at San Onofre. Besides being an extremely nice person, he's also been photographing surfers for a very long time. So I'™m looking for pointers and advice on shooting this sport. It also doesn'™t hurt that one of his favorite spots for shooting surfers is fairly close to my home; convenient.

We caught a beautiful day between two storms. We got to San Onofre well before sunrise and before the surfers began to arrive. The waves were very calm, but it didn'™t stay that way as you'™ll see in some of the photos below. Surfers began arriving as the sun and waves began to rise. They had a window of a few hours of good conditions before the winds picked up turning the waves to chop. It was a great day and I learned quite a few things from Brent. This is only my second foray into surf photography and there's a lot to learn. Hope you enjoy.

BTW, for those that missed Brents San Onofre post, it can be found here:

Very nice Mike. If you'd timed your visit right, you might run into Brent Harder.

Thanks Vicky for visiting. Brent and I met up and drove down to SanO together and had a great day photographing the surfers.

Mike, I think you have some excellent photos here. I love the photobomb photo! Very rare shot!
It was great to shoot the surfers with you. Vicki also joined me at San Onofre quite a while ago to photograph the surfers, but we didn't get there at dawn. We will have to do this again sometime.

Thanks for visiting. Yep, its much easier to point the camera than ride the waves. Tried it in my much younger days, but didn't stay with it long enough to get any good at it.
