Thank you (everyone) for the comments and feedback. I definitely need the F2.8 since my primary purpose will be to take real estate pictures for realtors, although I definitely intend to use the lens for architectural and landscape photography as well as night time photography.

Looking at the DP Review of the Nikon 14-24 vs Tamron 15-30 shows the Tamron as the "clearer" choice. However, reading the Ken Rockwell review, he seems to like the Nikon 14-24 F2.8 as the most clear of any ultra-wide angle lens he has ever shot and he is well respected for his reviews of lenses. So, I'm still torn. The price difference is quite significant. What to do? One thing the Nikon has above the Tamron is the resale value, but I don't ever plan to sell it.

Here is another thought. If you are getting paid by realtors for your work, then this should be viewed as a business expense. That may soften the impact of the cost of the Nikon, which seems to be what you really want. For me, purely a hobbyist, I would settle for something less expensive. Don’t rule out refurbished and used, and maybe you have not.

Thanks for the note of the Sigma 14-24. It looks impressive, but of course, we will only know for sure after it is released and used for a bit.
Meanwhile, the Tamrom does have 15x focal length, and vibration control, but is noticed for loss of clarity when wide open, especially away from the center of focus. Nikkor is quite a bit more expensive.

The Tamron is actually sharper than the Nikon from a couple of tests I have seen. The difference in any case is small.

Nikon does not manufacture a 12-24 f2.8. I am sure you were referring to the 14-24 f2.8 lens which is well regarded as a very fine lens. The Tamron 15-30 f2.8 has also good marks but if money is not an issue my choice would be Nikon.

I don't think you're whining at all; simply gathering info prior to making a major cost decision. I use both Nikon & Tamron lenses of various focal lengths, but if I were doing commercial work, I'd stick with Nikon. Remember, you will have the lens a long time.

You call that "...simply gathering info...". Geesus. Amazing what some of you posters will think and say...or at least say. Thought might not be a part of the equation.

Thanks for the correction, yes, you are right. The 12-24 is an DX (crop) and F4 which I am not interested.
Since my primary objective is for clarity and crispness, I think the Tamron will work best.
I am surprised, however, how much difference of view there is between a 14mm vs 15mm as in this comparison between the two.

Isn't that nikkor 12-24 a DX lens?

I have a Nikon D750 (full frame) and want a good wide angle zoom lens.
My main goal is clarity and crispness.
I'm trying to decide between the Nikkor 12-24mm, F2.8 and then Tamron 15-30mm, F2.8.
Both lens have excellent 5-star reviews, and the Nikkor is about $500 more expensive (as expected).
But what I want to know is from people who have one or the other (or both) and can give some personal feedback.

Thanks in advance.

I have the Nikon D750 also. One of the B&H guys suggested the Rokinon 14 mm, f2.8 lens. I bought it and have used it for the milky way and aurora. I have a 24-70 but wanted something a bit wider that was too expensive or heavy. This one was perfect!

I would certainly not recommend the Rokinon 14mm if using it for real estate. I got one for this purpose but the distortion was terrible and not fully correctable. I then purchased a 16-35mm zoom (Canon) which has much less distortion which is mostly correctable in Photoshop. The Nikon equivalent would be a better choice for real estate IMO.

If I were you I would go for either the Tamron 15 to 30 lens or the very sharp 16 to 35/4 lens. I have shot with the Nikon 16 t0 35/F4 lens and was very satisfied.

Yes I know the 14-24 is FX and have it. The OP referenced a 12-24. Maybe a typo?

I have the Nikon 14-24 mm f2.8. Excellent lens. I love it! As for the price, a wise pro told me once that you should buy the best you can afford.
If you can afford it, get the 14-24.
Good luck.

Thanks. I'm convinced now that for the money, and for my primary objective of sharpness and clarity, I am going to purchase the Tamron 15-30 F2.8.

I hadn't thought of that, but actually, that's a great idea. Thanks.
