I heard a few times that L brackets were very handy and was advised to find one made specifically for the model of my camera and to avoid a universal model but so far I can't. Have any you owners of this camera ever found one for it?
Thanks,
The benefit of specific model designs are they have openings for attaching cables to the specific locations of the specific camera. Also, the size and locations of openings on the camera change if using a battery pack on the camera. You're probably not going to find one designed specifically for a Rebel body.

There's plenty listed on eBay. Google your thread title.

Thanks,
3 Legged Thing is selling a universal "L" bracket.

It took 5 seconds to find this via Google.
Here is a used one at B&H.
Although not a Canon guy, I use an L-Bracket on every camera I have. Landscape to Portrait is a quick switch and it keeps the CG (center of gravity) over the middle of the tripod where it belongs.
Amazon sells several which are about 120 degrees versus 90 degrees. Most have 2 hot shoe brackets. I have one, and it is wonderful.

Although there's not a picture for this product, note the description including "Modular Design, Base Plate & L-Component". I believe our OP will find this is two (or more) pieces rather than a single piece of metal. That observation doesn't make this the wrong choice for a T5i, but it does explain the lower price as compared to a single custom-designed piece of metal. At $60 it's priced at a can't go wrong level.
Owning both Kirk and RRS, the RRS is superior. My Kirk plate has some "give" where all the RRS plates are as rigid a steel.
Sunwayfoto makes a universal that has a ridge on the plate to keep the camera from rotating, which will make it better than the 3 Legged Thing, but the one that is referenced by Bobhartung above at B&H would be your best bet. Even though it is used, it appears to be in great shape and it is a RRS, one of the best for the same price as a Sunway or 3 Legged Thing.

How often you use it on your tripod, is a question of how much you should want to pay. They can go well over $150+ for a quality one that is designed specifically for your camera. You can get universal ones much cheaper. Amazon and B&H has them. But, avoiding them is your choice.
Like others have mentioned, you attach an L-bracket to your camera and leave it there. It adds some weight, but only by a small percentage relative to the camera and lens(es). It also provides some protect for scrapes and grinds although that's not the primary purpose of an L-bracket.
Making an investment in an L-plate is part of a larger investment in quick release clamps for your tripod head / monopod. The dove-tail ARCA-SWISS standard makes L-plates and lens-plates on your collars into a 'complete' system where every piece of equipment is ready for mounting to your tripod / monopod when pulled for the bag for use.
I've been using Sunwayphoto L brackets on my Canons for quite some time, quality and pricing are excellent. I recently purchased one for my 6D2 which is specially designed to work with and not interfere with the articulated LCD touchscreen. Once you start using them, you wonder how you ever got along without one.

The point is that you could have done it also.

I kind of gathered that. I vaguely remember seeing that and dismissed it because it was used. May have to consider it. Knowing RRS, I'm sure the new one is pretty expensive but I also figure that hearing about their quality, the used one would be ok too. Thanks again for looking for it.
