Hi Everyone ,
ive been using a Canon G11 as my walk around camera and very good it is .
It has its limitations though ( as any camera has )..

Thinking of getting an upgrade to a Sony A6000 ..
Reviews mostly say its an excellent camera ..

Anybody have any experience of this model ?
Any pitfalls ?

The only thing I can find is its Electronic Viewfinder ...Oh how I hate them !!
Why dont they just put in an optical one .. surely it's what everyone wants ..

Thanks

My experience is that the A6000 is an excellent camera. No pitfalls.
If you feel the viewfinder is the most important aspect of a camera, you might be happier with the A6300 or the A6500.

I have an A6000 and like it quite a lot. It surely is in a different league than the G11, though not having a G11 I cannot do a direct comparison. With the A6000 you will probably want more than a single lens and that means a bigger camera bag. Still, with just a small lens attached - and there are several available - the A6000 will fit in a reasonably big pocket. I'm not sure I understand the objection to the electronic viewfinder. My own thinking about an upgrade is for the A6500 - though I do sometimes think about getting a pocket-sized bridge camera that will shoot RAW.

Experience is good....so you have had both those cameras? Why did you not like the Sony A6000? I have used neither, but have read pros and cons in reviews of both.
Inquiring minds want to know (even dense ones like me)!

You don't say what your other cameras are if you have them. If you have other Canon gear, especially lenses, maybe think about one of their mirrorless cameras which with an adapter will work with Canon lenses.

I have a Sony A6000, nice camera, fast focus. You'll like it I think once you adjust to the daunting menu system. But mine sits on the shelf lonely for attention and only comes out once in a while. I have a Canon M5 and it has become my walk around/drive around camera. The menu system is familiar and I'm comfortable with it. (BTW there have been some deals around that offer a free EF lens adapter) The new M50 has 4K video if that interests you.

Enjoy whatever you buy and all the opinions you'll receive here....

Happy shooting

For the most part mirrorless cameras use the EVF. Fuji does have models with the OVF if that is important.
If you are familiar with the M50 it is more than the a6000 (getting a bit dated) and is considerably newer with 4k video and silent shutter.
But it is more, not a lot though.
It does have the EVF though as well.
So if an OVF is important you might look at the Fuji X cameras and they are excellent tools with excellent optics.

Yes, the Sony A6000 is good. Personally I like the A6300 better.

That's always the problem when shopping. Whatever you pick out there is always one that is a bit better but more expensive. I'm holding off on upgrading until I feel comfortable shelling out for an A6500 body. But by then there will no doubt be an A6800 to consider as a better alternative.

a6000,6300,6500 are good cameras. I have an a6000 Son uses a6500. I bought my 6000 for my daughter to use on a safari we took together last year. I use the D500.

I use the Sony a lot at work and when I want a small easy camera to take with me. Pictures look good. Settings are fine but prefer my D500 set up better. EVF is nice. Price is good.

If your G 11 is still working and you are happy with its images, why get something else? You are saying you hate electronic viewfinder and that is precisely what the a6000 has.
Yes, the Sony body is excellent in quality.
