Very nicely done but as a nit pick, I would like to see the light softened a little more as it causes some hot spots on the face and especially on the right breast. I'm also a little curious as to why the right hand fingernails look sharp and detailed but the left hand looks a little subdued.

Thanks All, for your very kind words; I believe we collaborated well here on what was a very challenging shoot (100 degrees, strong early evening sunshine). And big-guy, nit picks are always fine and fun! Yes, this natural light was very strong; ideally I would have employed an assistant to position a little shading. Instead I opted to use the broken door and split the light through the wall boards... I mostly succeeded, most of the time. That’s the main reason why one hand is subdued; light diffusion through the boards was creating some interesting effects with only minute position changes between photographer and model.

Someone also commented on Cat’s foot being struck by harsh light in this portrait... yep, it’s amazing what you see, AFTER you close on the image. 😖 That’s why I say that Natural Light Boudoir Portraiture is more like a dance than a shoot, I constantly need to gently adjust the flow of model poses and my positioning, to ensure I capture the best possible portraits with the best use of light.

I'm sure no one commented on the light flare because the beauty of the model and pose makes it easy to overlook. I also think you've got a great portrait shot if you care to zoom in on the face and hair.

A little early evening Sun. A little shade from old barn walls. And lots of Beautiful Redhead. I hope I've mixed these ingredients well together, and someone appreciates my attempt to serve an Artistic Nude Portrait?

A very nice capture!

Nice to see some natural hair down below rather than porn star baldness...

Thanks for your comments, always appreciated! I will take a look at that tight crop for a portrait shot, and compare it to the face portraits I executed in the commissioned Series.

I’m not sure if those lights can be classified as light flare or not... they are caused by sunlight coming through holes in the front above the barn door (behind me), and hitting the boards at the back (in front of me)... or does that qualify them as bokeh effects? They appeared in all the portraits in the Series too (taken from this general direction) and I just left them in as they seemed to complement the mood... and the Client loved them. 😉

I rarely get flare using this lens (EF 50mm f/1.4 USM) unless I’m shooting straight into the Sun early morning or late evening. I really like this lens for portraiture, on both APSC and FF bodies. I primarily use 7D Mk ii and 5D Mk iv bodies; this Series was shot with a 7D Mk ii, as we wanted to get some really funky, lower creamy light / higher noise effects, just after Sundown. And we got them! Maybe a few portraits for another day? 😀

Beautiful young lady, period! (I don't want to call her a "model"}
Even positioning of her hands and her fingers are looking good.
Absulutely photogenic head, good hair plus the relaxed facial expression make this portrait precious.

Keep doing a good work BB4A!

PS: Could you reveal the focal length of your lens and the size of your sensor?

Sure, all the portraits in this series were captured with one of my favorite combinations for natural light boudoir portraiture, a Canon 7D Mk ii body, with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens.

I believe I may be a little unusual in my choice of camera bodies for this genre, but I really like the way my 7D Mk ii bodies handle lower light levels when shooting natural light & natural beauty portraits, particularly with this 50mm lens. I don’t mind the little bit of barrel distortion and falloff when shooting wide open (f/1.4), with these bodies APS-C sensors it really doesn’t come into play. I also really enjoy the way 7D Mk ii’s process the captured light at medium ISO’s... a little bit of noise is an artistic effect that differentiates my work as I capture “the truth in the light.” 😀

Of course, when I’m in really dark natural light shoots, I pick up a 5D Mk iv body instead. With this f/1.4 fitted, I’m always confident I can shoot with IR AF and reasonable AE balance, even though it’s too dark for me to manually focus. I really must try an f/1.2 L USM and 5D Mk iv combo... I get the impression that would allow me to take usable portraits of black cats in coal cellars, at night & during a lunar eclipse? 😱
