I purchased an 85 f/1.8 lens from KEH late last week; it was set to be delivered by FedEx on Saturday but never was due to the dreaded "customer wasn't home or business was closed" message. Mind you, I WAS home and I never saw any FedEx vehicle drive by on my street. I called FedEx up and talked to a CSR explaining my issue. I filed a complaint and was expected to receive my delivery on Tuesday (today).

Fast forward to today. Following my package via FedEx's tracking page, I see that it was on its way. As it became later and later in the day, I wondered what was happening because once again, I saw no FedEx vehicles on my street at any time. Well, I checked the tracking page...and lo and behold, it wasn't being delivered to Address A where I was, but to Address B where I have a PO box 10 miles west of there. Let's just say that I wasn't happy.

I called FedEx again to complain and to ask why was my package not delivered to Address A like I requested; the CSR took my phone number and would have someone call me back to explain what happened (yeah, right) and I said that it had better be a driver supervisor. Furthermore, I sent an email to KEH's sales department telling them about the situation and to see what they say or what they can do to mitigate the problem. It's not the fault of KEH, but I wanted to let them know what was happening with my order.

I have noticed that it seems like most camera vendors seem to be using FedEx for shipping instead of USPS like I would like to use preferrably because I have a PO Box for a reason. Any thoughts from anyone concerning FedEx, or want to share their own experiences?

You know, you could call FedEx and then drive over and pick up your package. In about the time it takes to complain on UHH about it.

Sounds like this is "user error". How would KEH or FedEx even know the P.O. Box unless it was given to them with the order? If the home address had been given in the original order, I would think that's where the order would be delivered.

You cannot blame KEH for wanting a signature, common sense. If you want it delivered to another address beside billing, with B&H you have to register that address with your card company, for me with a $$$ item always Amex, with double the warranty. Now I have had 3 credit cards, Amex, busted, to the tune of a total of $18,000$... On the last one Microsoft sent laptops to 3 alternate address's, guess who lost $7000. Now the people who felt the hurt the worst were the flower and Gadiva chocolate folks, about $400 each. Yea they have their own rules for a reason, THIEVES.

The only way to prevent "porch shopping," without a "signature required" is to us a USPS box. That way the item is kept in the PO and never sees a porch. As said above. tough luck if you're in the john or the basement, or in the back yard when the package arrives, and I've been delayed for 2 days before because no one was able to come to the door.

OBVIOUSLY someone told FedEx to ship it to your post office box. That is the address they are using. That someone is usually the receiver of the package as FedEx will only deliver to the address that is on your package. Your problem is that you are using (yes you are) TWO addresses and someone (probably you) clicked the wrong address or KEH used it as your default address. IT IS NOT A FEDEX PROBLEM, IT IS YOURS.

FEDEX overnight is still top shelf as it always has been. But their ground delivery, which used to be RPS before it was acquired by FEDEX was always awful, and it seems the acquisition hasn't changed much. UPS is uneven. I used to have a single driver who knocked on my door at the same time every time he had a package for me. My time was 4 PM. If he knew I needed something, he would return before the end of his shift. I tipped him nicely.

But the UPS today is barely better than FEDEX ground. Different drivers, random times, and even though I have UPS My Choice which is to pinpoint delivery times within a smaller window, the drivers rarely get it right - either delivering before or after the window. And they will leave packages out in the rain, uncovered. The worst thing they do is leave heavy packages at my front door - blocking entry/exit. I have to go out through the back of the house to get to the front door. I rarely hear a doorbell these days when UPS makes a delivery. In 50 yrs of using FEDEX, they have yet to lose a package or fail to give me the service I have paid for. And an added benefit - if we have a missed delivery on a next day delivery, I can call then and have them re-attempt delivery the same day. This is not possible with UPS or any other delivery company.

FedEx Ground for the most part are franchises. It sounds like a good deal going in, but the only one who benefits is corporate. My nephew hung on to his for about a year.

UPS went to a computer scheduling system a number of years ago where areas overlapped and they could reschedule on the fly adding pickups. The company I worked for as an insurance appraiser bought into it. The brains in management didn't realise that it might take longer to write an estimate than pick up a package. It prompted class action lawsuits, and just as I was retiring the company was forced to pay overtime.

Computers in the wrong hands don't make things better.

I don't order as much as some others, but in general the service from both FedEx and UPS has been good. Only once - last week in fact... - I had to file a lost package claim with UPS. That same day they instituted a search and I had the package on Monday. In the meantime, the shipper also sent me a replacement, and that arrived on Tuesday! [I will send one of them back with a prepaid shipping label.] It took longer than it should have for the original delivery, apparently because the package fell off the grid at the hub, and I waited several days to see if it would show up.

My primary frustration with the event is that customer service relied entirely on the computer information to figure out what was going on with the delivery. They said all I could do is file a missing package claim. Apparently they mostly answer other kinds of questions, but do not do anything to solve the problem. However, I did have the person I spoke with go ahead and file the claim for me, and it went into the system right away. Unfortunately, I may never find out what actually happened to that package along the way!

Where I live is semi-rural, the only place for UPS package sending is in the next town. The UPS truck usually comes from Brattleboro, VT [east side of the state], so it does not arrive here until around 5-6pm [I live on the west side of the state.] I do get a variety of drivers, but there is one guy that comes here the majority of the time. It is nice to get to know someone who comes to your house! There is no option for picking up packages somewhere, and front porch delivery works just fine. I have a long driveway off the road, and front porch shoppers are not frequent. So deliveries always arrive whether I am home or not. In a snow storm, the driver put the package in a plastic bag and tied it to a small tree down at the bottom of the driveway! I wondered what had happened to it until I checked online and saw the notation, so walked down and got it. [There have been times when I parked my car at the bottom of the driveway and walked up the hill in the snow to the house.]

I prevent porch shopping by having it delivered to my office. My wife uses the UPS drop and then picks it up. Depending on the package size, it’s walking distance

I had the experience of waiting for a package delivery from FedEx that I was not happy with. I checked by my front
door numerous times. I finally took a look at the tracking which said the package had been delivered. Where the heck was it?
I went out and finally located the package next to my garage. Not that it made much difference but I let the company and FedEx
know that I was not a happy camper.

Having worked for FedEx, I can tell you that they will never leave a package at a P.O. Box. Further more, FedEx does not put the address on the package. The shipper does. So if the wrong address is on the package that would either be the fault of KEH for miss labeling or your fault for giving KEH the wrong address.

Large ticket items I usually order from either Amazon or B&H. B&H almost always in the past have sent items via UPS. Last week I was expecting a UPS truck late in the day and was out doing errands when returned home to find a large package on my front porch, surprisingly sent by Fed-EX, which does not have a great reputation in this part of the country. The package was sent from B&H. Needless to say, I was expecting it's arrival later, from the usual UPS times. UPS and USPS have both been reliable in the past here in middle Tn.

Is all of this really a “problem” or just an inconvenience? And, one that we are fortunate enough to complain about...

I'm sure many people have something negative to say about just about anything. Why should package delivery be any different. Judging from some of the responses I read, one would think these carriers have a conspiracy going against some of their customers.
Personally and through work, I've been dealing with FedEx and UPS for many, many years and their miss-shipment is remarkably low considering the volume they handle and the locations they will deliver to.
For certain deliveries I will have FedEx hold the package at their local facility for me to pick up.
I can say I fall into the little to no problem category when it comes to FedEx.
