Yea, I was surprised at this. If the Art lenses are as good as some say, this is significant. I still use my 16-35 F4 for landscape and am getting frustrated with it. It has no distance scale (therefore no DoF scale) and with my old eyes, I need to rely on autofocus. Autofocus for landscapes requires moving the single point to the right distance for hyper focus, and it is guesswork getting the foreground in focus. I love my Batis lenses for this reason. Will the Sigma lenses have distance scales?

Most camera manufactures share info with third party lens manufactures at some point about new products coming out. But you have to keep in mind that I am sure Sony would like the consumer to buy THEIR lenses and not third party glass. So, sometimes this sharing either does not take place or at a point in time that will allow Sony to sell some lenses for the new camera BEFORE third party glass catches up.

Is the a7r3 so much better than the 2 that it requires better lenses? Still looking for landscape lenses with distance /DoF scales. The Sony G lenses are lacking this.

Just a reminder, the Sony cameras have "focus peaking" which lets you see the DOF in the viewfinder or display. No need for the numbers on the lens. On my a99ii all have to do is momentarily hit the manual focus button when using AF lenses to see the DOF. I understand in the new Sony a7iii this can be done via the touch screen. Happy Shooting.

Dam, I didn't think about that, great idea!!!!! I love focus peaking, But I shoot more manual focus lenses than I do auto focus.

Yes I know. I have read it is not exact and advice was to enlarge live view to focus. Difficult to scan the entire image to confirm focus. Easier to dial in the distance on my Batis but they don’t have a zoom.

I believe the focus peaking works in manual mode also. Just not perfectly accurate.

...or at least the first few produced up until this deluge. What will be interesting is to see if the ones in this batch are as good as the first ones or if we've been set up. Not all of Sigma lens produced in the past have been consistently as good as others.
