I have an AF-S 70-300 VR and i really like the lens. It is best at f/8 to f/10 on the long end ... i try and keep it below 270mm for the sharpest images, but it is genuinely a good, inexpensive lens. I would recommend avoiding the AF-P 70-300...it is a DX lens... I also have one of those and I do not find it as sharp as the AF-S. I bought my AF-S used from KEH. Enjoy it! (nice shot by the way).
There are two 70-300 mm AF-P lenses. One is DX and one is FF- the faster one is FF and about 750.00 and is excellent.
