Chris (HWMBO), I know to whom the comment was made; that was a major factor in my expression of appreciation and the manner in which it was stated. There was no discussion of tripods in the OP's original post other than the comment that the OP was not taking a tripod; the tripod issue was a by-product of the extended thread. By the way, it may interest you, but probably won't, that in some jurisdictions, a closed tripod with the three legs strapped together in considered to be the same as a monopod.

Oh, I see, Bill ....

No, I didn't know that - about taping tripod legs ... thanks for filling me in ....

That rule was something I set for myself, not by the organizers of the shoot

Oh, I see, Sailer .... thought it was in the rules you were given ....

So, did you zero in on that "one camera - one lens" combo, yet?

Not at all. My unwritten words were if it's tough in Mass, it won't be easy in NYC, and you confirmed that with the news that the form needed to be filed a week ago.

Requiring a week's notice is not making it hard or difficult. It's a protocol put in place to help ensure everyone's requests are fairly responded to - given the number of requests I am sure they get. And they may or may not do things differently in Bean Town. It's not always about the individual, you or anyone else. Is it an inconvenience? Only if you have an overwhelming need for instant gratification. I think the system works well, and I don't mind playing by the rules. I'd hate to go somewhere and find out that I can't use my tripod because all the permits were already given out, or something like that.

How are you defining Metro North and MTA?

The official website for Metro North is www.mta.info/mnr

Wikipedia says about Metro North "is a suburban commuter rail service run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro-North_Railroad

You are worse than a dog with a bone. When you apply for a permit, you apply to Metro-North's Corporate & Public Affairs Department, which is authorized to issue these permits. If you need to apply to MTA or MBTA, you'd be writing to obtain the permit from them.

Now stop the nonsense and move on - that's exactly what I am going to do.

I decided to bring the Sony, along with a cheap lightweight tripod.

Thank you for the clarification.
I had already gone on, and not seen your other comments, but came back to see if OP made a decision

This coming Tuesday, I Am participating in a photoshoot of New York City's Grand Central Station, as a guest of the Pictorial Photographer's of America. As most of my interest and experience lies in outdoor photography, I am not sure what to bring for this indoor photoshoot. My choices are between a Pentax k50 DSLR with a Sigma 17-50 F2.8 lens, a Panasonic G7 with a 14-140 lens, and a Sony Alpha 6000 with an 18-55 kit lens. I am not bringing a tripod, or external flash. Any suggestions welcome

I travel through Grand Central twice a day, 5 days/week. While the 14mm is more appealing than the 17mm, the f/2.8 trumps IMO. Enjoy the day.

Yes, but the Panny 14mm actually works out to be 28mm, right?

I suggested the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 on the Pentax K-50, too ... but Sailer finally decided on the Sony a6000 with the 18-55 ....

Just a reminder, this is not your thread. A little more listen and a little less talk on your part would be good.
