Love that place we have spent more than a couple Christmas there with our friends. Want to see bigger waves head down Hana Hwy to mile marker 13 then head down the side road to Peʻahi or Jaws the waves can really get pumping this time of year wish I were home now but will be back by mid summer to build the house,
down Hana way.

Jaws was epic Sunday Jan 14. Waves to 40 feet. Big crowd headed out there, parking near impossible and wife wasn't interested. 20 footers at Ho'okipa that day, got good pictures but not a single surfer or windsurfer would challenge those Ho'okipa waves -- whiteout conditions. For better pictures at Jaws you really need to be on a boat or helicopter.

boats are for sure where the best shots come out of makes it exciting, my wife is like that also not interested she would rather be on the Kihei side kicking back, she is not so happy to be living out of Hana as it takes awhile to get to town for shopping ,eating and seeing other friends but the place will be nice when it gets finished I just bought my sons ticket to go over and clear the land and get foundation in I am getting excited never had 2 places to live at once before. We lived in Kihei for 7 plus years while my wife worked at the Kahului post office then we are back here in the foothills where we lived for over 30 years now we get the best of both worlds.

I only went to Hawaii once, but I did drive "the road to Hana" and survived! I is quite the achievement of the locals to drive it every week for groceries and such. I also have some outstanding pictures of the kids on the rocks at the beginning of the road. Just can not stand the loooong plane ride over and back.

Yep that's quite a road but the views are heaven, to me it will be worth the drive time I am not in a hurry and if its a medical emergency there's a small er and the helo pad for the short flight to town we have owned 5 and a half acres near red beach overlooking the straight not good for swimming but the view and fishing is awesome and away from the crowds. The plane fight is not bad for us we almost always are able to upgrade our seats for the 5 hr flight out of Sacramento or San Jose.

Hawaii. Long flight? About 5 hours. Try Europe 10-11 hours. Sydney 14.5 hours. Hong Kong 15 hours!

Or 18 hours to Kenya in East Africa. However, in all fairness, I believe the person who made the comment is a Tennesee resident, so Hawaii is probably a 9-10 hour flight, as opposed to 5 for those of us who live on the west coast.

I was told there's another area a few miles to the West more suitable for beginners and intermediates -- Kanaha Beach. I didn't make it there this trip.
