Sure, why bother being reasonable about tracking, licensing, minimizing firepower etc, when you have a gun? 50 Cal for the masses! Defend my castle! Build the walls higher! Then we'll all be safe, behind our walls, alone, but safe.

Maybe not. Here in California, back in the 60's, when the Black Panthers showed up on the steps of the State Capitol with rifles openly displayed, legislators rushed a bill that outlawed that from happening again. On second thought you maybe right about the NRA not supporting such a restriction, but perhaps politicians can be motivated to make some changes... with the inspiration provided by the High School students/voters and their younger, soon to be voters that will remember who supports them. Just maybe.

Actually, there is some historical truth to this. The NRA was fully behind the Gunn Control Act of 1968:

This legislation was in direct response to the Black Panthers showing up at the California statehouse, legally walking the halls and fully armed, scaring the bejesus out of the white lawmakers (and white people everywhere).
