Boy did I step in a hornet's nest.

Thank you to all who were and have been patient in answering my questions about well, you know what. (I will not speak its name lest it sparks more controversy. LOL) I do wish I could find a better way to let you know that I did and will continue to read every post on the unspeakable subject, and I am gleaning much from your opinions and expertise. Thank you.

For those who posted less favorable responses due to the subject matter... well, just bless your heart.

Until next time... be blessed y'all.

I had missed the thread you are referring to, so looked it up. The baptism of fire wasn't enough to scare you away. That's a good thing. In time you will easily recognize the names of the folks who are not only polite, but also provide useful information.

Welcome to the HOG!

As you, I am a newbie, eventho I have been shooting since the 60's when I developed my own film and printed photos. You handled the replies well. There are many folks on this site that are so knowledgeable it scares me from posting my admittedly poor shots. And that's not sarcasm by the way. There are others who have heard the same things asked thousands of times and I'm sure are really sick of answering the same questions time and again. They tend to get testy some times and I don't blame them so hold nothing against their sometime "short" replies. And I've noticed a few who never have anything good to say, so why do they even reply? In short, listen to these people who are NOT being jerks. They know of what they speak ....and we all learn so much.

Perhaps it's perspective. They were some more, abrupt responses to my question, letting me and others know that they are not partaking in such calamity which is fine, no one said that just because someone posts a question they have to be the ones to answer it. Truth be known, I was more amused at their responses than anything else and totally understand their annoyance. Nothing beats beating a dead horse to death, eh?

I am not so easily offended... but I am so easily amused. It will be my downfall.

Scared away? Nah. I have tough skin. And I get it. Besides, I'm already addicted. Too late to run away now...

Glad you're here! I guess some folks on UHH are short tempered. Maybe it's age or they are having a bad day? However, I'm glad you took all the negative responses in stride. Good shooting to you!

Your answer was simple and fits in one word: Potential.

I didn't respond in your thread but if you can point me to the responses that you dislike I can learn from them and not posting things like that.

If you say about responses that told you to search the UHH or the web then I do agree with you. But just ignore them (just don't put the posters on your ignore list).

Thanks a LOT! ☺
I just had to track down your original post and read the responses. But, that's MY neurosis, not your fault.
In my humble opinion, that's the reason every digital camera needs 2 card slots. Then you would have one version to share with those who just want something "good enough" to mark the occasion (birthday, holiday, whatever), and the other to take on your quest for the grail (Perfection).
As for the responses/reactions; you get everything from your favorite teachers ("The only dumb question is the one you didn't ask") to the arrogant schmuck who insisted you should have memorized the entire text before daring to enter his sacred domain.
Most of the time, what you'll get is not only helpful instruction, but also friendly encouragement. So, enjoy the discussion/debate and the fun of your (our) hobby! 👍

Actually you had the full answer.

Potential (graphic)
How to (graphic)
Both graphics were posted by Dave but he did not explain. I think he is tired of explaining it every time the question is asked.
He has become kind of 'telegraphic' in his answers, as I am.

Hi, RGG,
Over the several years that it has been my habit to respond to the “Gee...what’s the diff between raw and jpeg” question with the two graphics I posted I have found that they generally elicit one of two response#: “Thanks, they helped a lot!” or they engendered some more specific questions to which I have been more than happy to respond. In the few occasions when there has been no response, with in the thread or by PM, I assume the O.P. gave them inadequate inspection to glean any of the significant points made in either and moved on, hoping for an epiphany by some other means. I find it impossible to predict the level of informational granularity from which the O.P.’s questions might arise, and, not having the time to enter upon a lengthy discourse and having had no guidance from the O.P. as to what was and wasn’t understood from the graphics, I moved on.

Busy with other matters today, so am signing off.

Dave
