has anybody heard about canon70d motherboards burning out? If so is it only when the camera is used mainly for video? Canon is not recognizing any problems but there are some bad reviews out there. I would like to buy one but am a little wary. any input would be helpfull> thanks.

I've owned a 70D since 3/14. It is my primary camera and I use it a lot. I take video of my grandkids' activities. These are typically in about 2 minute clips, but may be back-to-back-to-back. I recently did a single 16 minute video. The battery pack does get warm, but I've not had any failures. It's been a great camera.

The improvements in the 80D would make purchasing the 70D a bad choice.

I disagree. I researched and found the improvements were minimal and therefore bought a new 70D when I could have purchased the 80D at considerably more money. Compare at DPreviews.com.

Regarding upgrading from the Canon 70D to 80D DPreview says: "As an upgrade from the 70D, there's a lot to like about the 80D, but possibly not enough to warrant trading up, unless you're interested in video."

You got it! The best little secret out there for quality video, tap screen focus for quicker response to nature shots and video, and 59 fps video for slow motion. I shoot all my video with my Canon 1D and the video produced from this little low end camera is every bit as good without all the weight on the GlideCam. Picked up mine (with an 18-55 lens) direct from Canon for $700, and recently purchased a mint condition 10-18mm lens on Ebay for $200.

The only con is the cropped censor. I usually stay away from them, but the inexpensive 10-18mm gives me the equivalent of 16mm on a full size censor camera, so for $200 I have solved the issue for real estate video. I can throw this little camera in a back pack and if it gets damaged or wet, I am only out $900. Damage my 1D & Lens and I am out $8000.
