I have a Nikon D750 and several zoom lenses from Nikon and Sigma --they all seem fine to me; I just got the new Sigma Contemporary
150-600 zoom which is razor sharp throughout its range, and I can even use it handheld with fine results!!

Did you have a question?

Should you get a f/1.8 85mm or f/1.4 50mm? Yes!

Modern zooms are excellent and incredibly versatile when you want to frame the shot and you don’t want to (or can’t) “zoom with you feet” - I have 4. BUT, my experience has been that the best quality primes are typically sharper than the best quality zooms (and often smaller/lighter). Can you see the difference, and is it worth it to you? Only you can answer that question.

Zeiss (Nikon) 21mm AIs
Zeiss (Nikon) 28mm AIs
Voigtlander (Nikon) 40mm AIs
Nikon 50MM f/1.2 AIs

OK. Is there supposed to be a question in here, somewhere? I am glad you are happy with your new zoom lens.

I guess what you you are trying to find out is: A fixed lens is usually sharper, but a zoom lens is usually quite sharp and much handier or versatile.

It is good to hear positive feedback on the Sigma150 - 600 contemporary. My Sigma Art lens is terrific so I am considering the 150-600 Sport version (weather sealing is important. Not sure if the difference in price is justifiable.

Four FEET???

Primes can be sharper than zooms, and tend to be much faster, so they have their uses. My "drool worthy" lens is the Leica by Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.2. Dreamy-creamy bokeh, razor sharpness, shallow depth of field, and image stabilized. YUM! It's perfect for budget filmmaking.

Useful for (fast) zooming on uneven ground...
