18-300 lens

I have a Nikon 7200 and more often than not use the 6.3G version of the 18-300 zoom. I would be interested in any comments about the desirability of the 5.6 version. As a practical, real world matter does it make enough difference to justify the added cost.

I understand some of the limitations of these zoom lenses, but at least for me the plus of not carrying around a bag is usually worth it.

Use the 6.3 on a D7200 and D500. Unless you are doing a lot of low light I'm not sure
that the cost is justified.

The cost is not justified. Period.

I own the f/5.6 version. Great all round glass with sharp results. It was good enough to have one of my shots, illustrated in Darrell Young's "Mastering The Nikon D7100."

I think it would be good if you could try both of them and see the difference, yourself.

One more thing is that the older one is made in Thailand and the latest version in China. Not sure if this is a factor?

You may wish to consult professional lens reviews to settle this issue. My personal opinion is that there is not enough difference in quality to justify the expense.

I have used the 18-300 f/6.3 lens for a couple of years. It is a good travel lens and it has the same form factor & weight as the nikon 18-200 lens. the f/5.6 18-300 lens is significantly larger and heaver. The picture quality was not significant enough for me to go the the f/5.6 lens. For me size, price and weight are significant factors for a travel lens.
