What was your hardest model to photograph? And why?

In some discussions, it was made evident that certain type of nude studies are difficult, to say the least.

I think that it is a good idea to talk about our "worst moments".

I always had, and still have, difficulty when working with a model who is angular in structure. When I did life art class, the angular positions one young lady took just wrecked my two hours. In this case, no foreshortening techniques I used got my drawing "right". I have had similar experience with some of my photographic models along the way. The common connection was that they were very adept in Yoga positions. One would think that the agility would lend itself to better photography. For me, it was very aggravating at times. I would like to attribute it to my European visualization of the body. But I know that to be not the case.

So. What are your "nightmares"?

Side query: Have any of you have had a Comparative Anatomy class to help with your photos?

As a physician I had comparative anatomy in college and then a full year of anatomy in medical school. I was recently asked by a person in my figure drawing group if the drawing is easier knowing the anatomy. My answer, not at all. I may know the muscles and bones and all of the insertions, etc., drawing them correctly is another thing. I marvel at those able to draw the body well.

I have never panicked at drawing or photographing a nude. I do have more trouble with the male, particularly the obese ones we often seem to have in my drawing group. Setting a line is so much more difficult. I haven't had that experience yet with a photographic male model.

My daughter tried to include one semester of Cadaver Lab. The University counselor kept giving her the run around, causing her to change degree paths three times. I was ready to help that person to be the guest of honor.

I, too, marvel at those artists. I have known a couple of them who went professionally into the medical research field.

I've found that knowing the architecture does help me with photographing people. And I do fully appreciate your issue with drawing those male bodies. I would guess that our consternation was striving to match what we saw.

At times I have gotten requests for Glamour and Boudoir shots of older women. A 60 year old woman partially naked with fat and rolls and age spots etc can be VERY challenging . Lighting, angles and well placed sheets help a lot. To me and to themselves they are beautiful BUT god forbid you post one of the pix here on UHH . They will cut down that poor woman like you cant believe.

I concur with your assessment. Unfortunately, wisdom requires age at times.

Hard models to photograph are those who don't have a knack for posing.

It's easy to photograph beautiful young women; quite another for older (50+) women, even if they are in good shape. I frequently shoot trans girls, and even if they are totally "passable", there are "tells" that need to be handled tastfully. The general public tends to be very critical of images of these women.

And it does seem that young women turn out to be harshest in their judgment, even though they themselves will be that old some day, often too soon.

Not always. If you haven't yet. Check out my thread, "Mutton dressed as lamb, it's what's for dinner" One of the most popular in this section of uhh.

Nice shots, I wonder how old she was/is. You didn't know her at all?

Those were candid shots, taken at a distance with a long zoom bridge camera. My guess that she was in her early to mid 60s. I didn't know her

She is lovely, I am being picky though, why did you drop her right leg off?

To make a 13x19 print. I saw nothing wrong with cropping there.
