Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains (Winter edition)

Wonderful set of pictures, James. I have a question about the roofs on a couple of the buildings. Why are the boards on one side of the roof set higher than the pole beam? I've never noticed this on older buildings before.

I don't have an answer so I'll have to research that. But all the cabins shown have one side of the roof shingles extending beyond the cap or apex of the roof. Not sure why, may someone else know...feel free to jump in.

These photos are beautiful, James. I was there once in the summer, and these shots are much better than the summer ones.
