That is a fair comment, but a loupe for a digital camera is pretty easy to research - aka ask Mr. Google - and enlightenment may follow.

They do not have to be expensive and can be very effective.

Some people don't know what integrity or hypocrisy means either. Some people think that 'erudite' is a type of adhesive! How much do we want to dumb things down? Ignorance can be cured, and we are all ignorant in some regard or other. "What's a loupe?" is a perfectly reasonable question, just as much as "what's a myocardial infarction" which was once misunderstood to have been "a massive internal fart"...

Maybe you can go to this other thread and set these people straight

It's been said a number of times here on UHH that a mirrorless camera just can't take images equal to those taken with a DSLR. I'm wonder how that is a valid supposition. It seems to me that once the image hits the sensor, the rest is up to the electronics to process that image, and it makes no difference how it got into the camera at that point.

So how is it that having a mirror and pentaprism in a camera makes its images superior to those taken with a mirrorless camera?

True. I still have an Agfa 8X Loupe... It's handy for all sorts of uses! My proportion wheel and grease pencil don't see much use, though! (Yearbook folks know the references...)

Never owned one. I do have a slide rule, though I haven’t used it since high school.

I have and still have slide rules, calculators, pens (including fountain pen), pencils, mechanical pencils but I never had a pocket protector. I had enough shirts spoiled with ink but still I never use the protector.

It's counterintuitive, but it is the right thing to do! Mirrorless is a totally different world of possibilities.

If you think like a dSLR designer when designing a mirrorless camera, you lose.

Mirrorless is as much of a paradigm shift as the iPhone is, compared to the BlackBerry or Nokia phones available in 2007.

I know you all want to use your big old EF L glass, but why? If they make new lenses for a pro mirrorless, they will be better, lighter, and more in balance with the body... I'm sure you'll be able to adapt lenses (as in the case of the EOS M5, M6...), but there may be some annoyances with adapters.

Then why does Sony make lenses bigger and heavier than the old Canon EF L lenses for mirrorless in the same focal lengths?

I’m sure that Sony had a reason to do that to get the quality they were after, but we all know that the “weight saving” amongst same size sensor setup is only going to be in the camera body.

If Nikon or canon made a dslr with a m4/3 sensor, Olympus wouldn’t have muchweight savings in the system.

I say shoot what you like using and focus on creating work of art.

I had never even heard of pocket protectors until I moved to the US, but I do have most of the above items. Even quill type ink pens...

My wife even has an inkwell for sale: http://www.trocadero.com/stores/periodpieces/items/1369882/WMF-Egyptian-Revival-Silver-Plate-Inkwell

Anyhow, back to Canon FF mirrorless, the commercial break is over!

Rangefinder film cameras and the lenses for them are considerably more compact... but the selection of lenses for rangefinders was always quite a bit more limited than what was available for SLRs. Both systems commonly had 20/21mm, 24/28, 35/40, 50, 75/85/90 and 135mm... but 200mm and longer lenses for rangefinder were unusual... as were specialty lenses such as ultrawides, fisheye, tilt shift, macro. All those were impractical on cameras relying upon separate viewfinders, rather then the "through the lens" viewing SLRs provide. This difference goes away with mirrorless, because they're TTL, just like SLRs/DSLRs. But are the small cameras practical to use on big lenses? Hard to say. There aren't a lot of "extreme" lenses for mirrorless. We'll see!

I have a large collection of Nikon lenses from my film days that I use on my MFT and Fuji APS cameras - one lense I especially enjoy is the 50-300 Nikkor, which is a 100-600-e on the GX7 - a great combo when shooting birds and swamp critters in the southern bayous. I love holding that beautiful old lense while framing and focusing the shots in the great EVF's of the Lumix and/or my Fujis. As for "Balance" - that is no more a consideration than it was pre-digital on my Nikons - the camera/lens combo is either balanced on a tripod or balanced with the lense supported with the left hand ~ in either case, the camera body is just going along for the ride.

OK so what do you think? Should the Canon FF mirrorless have an EF lens mount?

In a word, yes. However I am not averse to an adapter for existing EF or EF-S lenses, together with an adapter for FL/FD/FDn lenses. The system takes much longer to transition than a mere camera does.
