Should Pence be at the Olympics?

Personally I am disappointed he’s there. The Olympics is a huge source of pride for the South Koreans and it gives them a much needed distraction from the possibility that millions of their citizens could be killed in seconds. By the US VP going to the Olympics in response to North Korean overtures serves only to take away the comfort the Olympics’ distraction provided.

What do you think?

And if Pence wasn’t there some people would whine about that. Sometimes everyone just can’t be pleased. I think it is a show of friendship and support for South Korea. It is hopefully an opening for peace with North Korea.

It is unprecedented that a foreign leader insert himself in the Olympics hosted by another nation. Furthermore, Pence had a news conference and discussed the on-going conflict and our military preparations for it.

If I were a South Korean I would be incensed at his (and by extension) America’s temerity.

I see your point, and agree.
Personally, I think Pence should be in a church in Indiana preaching.

The spirit of the Olympics is supposed to be (or was) apolitical. Pence is one of the most divisive figures on the world political stage.

I don't mid him being there but it is a mistake to drag all the political gibberish with him as he has done.

Just another "in your face" to North Korea, no matter how inappropriate.

But what is interesting is the South Koreans put Kim directly behind him in the box. You must know that was deliberate as she was a late addition which means someone else must have been displaced.

What I found truly reprehensible was Pence and his wife did not applaud the Korean team's appearance.... that is just plain rude. The majority of the athletes on that team are South Korean. Our VP chose to remain seated and not applaud the team because a group of North Koreans were members. If I was a South Korean, I would be furious; as an American I am very embarrassed at his childish political display.

Embarrassment is the norm.
