Hello everyone,
I have been doing amateur photography for many years and have just recently decided to pursue it full time. However, the more I learn the more I discover how very little I really know! Please tell me that I'm not alone in that regard! I come from a small city and I am looking to have a niche in birth photography and fresh 48 sessions. I love every aspect of pregnancy/Labour and delivery/babies so No, it doesn't gross me out to take pictures of babies coming out of vaginas..i get that question quite a bit. I actually find it to be a beautiful part of life. My struggle that I have been dealing with however, is the terrible inconsistent lighting in my hospital. I recently did my very first birth session a few days ago and I am pretty proud of my photos being my first time and all...but I did notice that my photos don't offer a sense of cohesiveness due to the constant changes in lighting (therefore adjusting settings to get a proper exposure). Is there any tried and true way to achieve a more consistent product with different lighting?? Or can that all be done post production? I also want to know how to achieve sharper images in the low light with my subject(s) moving. Thanks for any input!
I have been shooting photos for years. Started in mid 80's. I still know nothing. I am buying online books, watching videos, reading UHH and the most important thing of all... taking photos and applying what I learn. You are not alone! It helps to share your work and open yourself to constructive criticism by those who do it professionally. Great opportunity here to get feedback.
First, welcome.
Second, that is a big question with several answers and combinations of answers.
1) Have a fast lens.
2) Be prepared to use a white reflectors, flash, and/or bounce flash.
3) Use a good camera.
4) Shoot RAW.
5) Know how to control your brightness in Post Production.
6) Set your camera to anti-flicker.
7) Understand the problems of shooting through a window and especially a double paned window.
8) Bracket your shots.
9) etc.

Welcome to the forum. There are many good books on all aspects of photography that are very informative and educational. I suggest you acquire some, read them and learn how to do what it is you want to do. Read the books and practice, practice, practice...
Welcome to the Hog, enjoy.
Welcome to UHH, glad you joined us. I have been shooting since the middle 70's and seems I know less now than I did then!! I see that you received some useful suggestions from other members. Must members here are very willing to assist other photographers.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.
