Hey Fellow OpTech sling strap fans. I have a burning question. I've used, and have been thrilled with the OpTech dual sling strap, but with my D-500, I purchased a single sling strap. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the strap between the 2 lugs, keeps getting in the way of the viewfinder, which is VERY frustrating. What am I missing here?

I think the dual strap naturally has more slack in it or something, I have found myself using 2 bodies at the same time less and less, and would prefer going down to the single...I love the OpTech system, but am about 3 seconds away from moving back to a standard strap. (I use my tripod WAAAY too much to move to the Black Rapid type sling that fastens to the tripod nut)

So...not looking for posts upon posts of why I should switch. I kind of want posts telling me or showing me how I'm using mine wrong...if that makes sense. If not, I will just use one side of my dual strap, or go back to the OEM strap.

thanks!

My cameras have l-plates, bigger lenses have a/s feet and my shoulder straps have arca-swiss clamps for easy attachment or removal to mono or tripod. Many happy miles!

I know what you mean. If you are right eyed attach the strap to the left side of the camera or is it vice-versa?

For moving around, I have both lugs connected; when shooting I disconnect one lug. If the camera falls, it is still safe with one lug connected which does not get in the way of the camera controls and viewfinder.

I did exactly what you're doing. I previously used dual strap and went to a single op-tech. To avoid the strap getting in the way of the viewfinder I attached to the left side of the camera and for double security attached also to the tripod screw port on the camera bottom. Got an eye-type screw for the bottom from local camera shop and they are also available on the internet. Love this arrangement. The bottom strap is just for extra security.

I think that the single sling strap is intended to only attach to one camera lug. As another noted you can attach to both lugs during hiking and quickly disconnect one for extended shooting. Another option is to adjust the two lug straps that go to the sling to different lengths. I have never seen it used with a strap actually between the lugs.

You are only supposed to use one lug or it will get in your eye.

The L-plate gives you two mounting options, bottom or side, plus no delay in removing for tripod use.

The strap is a continuous loop with lugs attached. When both lugs are clipped to the camera, the main strap is between the lugs (and blocking access to the camera viewfinder and controls). Either unclip one lug or pull the strap down and out of the way.

What you need is the Extension Connectors. I have them - my sling strap came with them as a gift. In addition to getting the camera body away from the cross body sling strap, they allow a rapid change from a sling back to a neck/shoulder strap.

Wow, thanks. I feel pretty stupid for not figuring out to use just one lug at a time. I actually made my own security connectors (Velcro) so that they don't accidently get unsnapped. I'm sure it is more than enough to hoid it. I tend to hold on to the camera when moving around anyway, so attaching the second lug is probably not ever really necessary.

All my bodies use Arca Swiss plates, as well as my long lenses, so adding an eye to the tipod nut wouldn't work for me, but I can see how it would be helpful.

Thanks all. And thanks for not filling the whole topic about how you like x or Y brand better because it attaches to the tripod nut.

This forum is supposed to be about how to use cameras. If you can't figure how to carry them, you have a long way to go.

Interesting but for me not required. As I slide the camera up to the sling I unclip one lug - one fluid motion. I do not use neck straps at all.
