Looked through the search button and didn't find anything that could help. I need some help with ideas for indoor Photography during this long winter. Located in Minnesota and happen to be an Enrolled Agent so Tax season it seems like I never get outside with any light or without negative temps. So I get home and try to come up with some indoor ideas. After a day of dealing with taxes my mind is a little bogged down....what do you do to keep shooting in a case like this? I want to keep shooting!

I purchased one of these. There are a lot of objects to use this with.

Maybe schedule early morning or sunrise photos? Then get a quick breakfast with hot coffee before heading to work.

I don't know if this is of any help, but I'm very bored in the time of winter! Ever since I became so sick, I have to stay indoors and can't go outside, because I have to stay attached to that fricking oxygen hose 24/7. Especially in the winter time, I have to do this, because the cold can end me (latterly) and I get so tired of that shit, I could scream all day.All I want to do is being outside and do stuff. So sometimes I just grab some stuff and take pictures of it. The other day, I was eating some grapes and then I was thinking of getting rid of the boredom, I could just take a picture of them. So I arranged them on the table to look somewhat good and then I thought that a cold one would make a good companion to some grapes, so I opened a bottle and filled a glass, and what the heck I took a shot of that too. Then I got somewhat carried away and just kept on going, taking shots of all kinds of things, like my aftershave and etc. By now you probably know that (when I said, I did get carried away) that it took away any boredom their was and got me back to the feeling - life is good!!!!

Sorry, could not find the pic of the grapes right now, so I just go with the beer and some that followed!

Well, after a bit, I did find the grape image, but what I was going to say is, it does not matter what you have, what you pick to take pictures of, just take something in the house and start thinking about shooting it. It will give you something to do, something to think about, as well as some playing time on the computer (because you have to edit the images)! All those attached images just came to be, because I was bored, and by doing them, everytime the boredom was replaced by, me having something to do (and having fun using my camera)! Just something for you to think about!

There are many opportunities. Don't even have to go outside. Shoot through a window. or even an open door. Here are a few of mine

Why only inside? Sunrise, sunset, farms, texture and B&W can all shot and almost from you car or just a few moments in the cold. The camera won't get cold.

There's always still lifes, all you need is a small corner somewhere to set up a temporary studio if you haven't got a studio.

Living on the 45th parallel can get boring in the wintertime. A few years ago I was leaving the place where I had lunched and walked past a flower shop. A flower in the window caught my eye and that gave me the idea of getting one flower per week and shooting it until I knew every petal and every crevice that flower offered. This led to a few decent photographs and lots of fun moments. It can be as challenging as you want to make it.

Still life shots are good and you can experiment with B&W, lighting - natural, on camera flash, off camera lighting, etc. - as well as camera features you aren't as familiar with.

Have you tried lightbox photography? I've done this with flowers but plan to do other subjects, too. You place your subject on a flat lightbox, take images starting from mid-histogram to full-on high key images (high key is an image that is shot almost white with the histogram fully to the right but not blowing out the image...think fashion models), then put a couple of images into PS as individual layers and erase portions of one or more layers to get the tones you want. Check the Walmart website for a $60 lightbox; the ones from an art supplier are very expensive. You can also make your own lightbox.

The technique requires an ability to setup a still life, a tripod, camera, best with a macro lens, and shooting on manual to get the exposures you want. You can also add other lighting and use backgrounds in PS. Learning this process will fill hours of your time with fun.
