My printer worked fine until it didn't. While it worked, I ignored printer discussions here at UHH. Now I need recommendations for a new printer costing, oh, about $150 or less. Links to previous discussions would be appreciated.

Are you look for a printer for documents only or something that's also good with photo prints?
I personally have 5 printers. Two are for photos only, one is for documents only, one is an all in one and one does documents and photos.
The Canon TS 9020 is my document/photo printer. It does really, really good color photos up to 8.5 X 11, excellent documents and it does amazing black and white photo prints. My document only printer is my HP 2100 laser jet.

For $150, look at an HP all in one printer/copier/fax at Staples.

I recommend the same to all who are looking for a printer - - - Canon or Epson.

Both Canon and Epson are making multi purpose "office" printers with large ink tanks that are supposed to keep ink costs per print down. Canon calls it "MegaTank" and Epson calls it "EcoTank". Brother has a version called "INKvestment".

If you can go with a color laser printer. Not photo quality but reasonable and great for office everyday printing. Your cost per page will be considerably less than using an inkjet type printer. I was able to pick up an HP 200 Pro color for about $200.00. Compared to an inkjet in the last three years it's paid for itself probably twice over. The other nice thing is you don't have to worry about inks drying up.

I always had HP’s and always had problems. My son-in-law is a tech guy, and he says there are always problems with HP’s. A cheap Canon came to me free with another purchase, and it was a lot more reliable than any of the HP’s I ever had. I wanted a better printer, though, so I went to a Brother and have had it for a while and love it. I would never, ever go back to an HP.

I might add that I do not use my printer for printing photographs; I do not print enough photos to make it cost effective for me to do my own.

I have had a few HP printers over the years and I also had problems with them. When my last HP printer crapped out and I went looking for a new printer my first consideration was "anything but a Hewlett-Packard".

What I think is you need to have a Costco membership to buy it.

I purchased a Xerox color laser printer from Costco a little over a year ago. Normally it was about $400 but Costco had it for a hundred and fifty something. I went to Best Buy at the time to see what they might have. When I asked a couple of the young 'associates' about the Xerox they said they never heard of Xerox. I remember when Xerox used to be a verb. When you wanted a copy of something you xeroxed it.

The best reply so far. Why all the printer chatter when the OP hasn't even told you what is needed from the printer?

Well, this "OP" deleted his long screed in the "OM" of what I use the printer for. Until I have been without, I didn't realize how much I use the printer for. I could not print an immigration document for a trip to Mexico. I cannot print an insurance document Arizona demands that I carry in my new car. I can't print checklists, recipes, essays ......

I put a UTM grid on images I download from Google Earth, print them, and carry them in a notebook while I am doing my geologist stuff. Because Oct to Apr is my field season in the Sonoran Desert.

I am going to solve my problem by heading off to Costco as soon as it opens and getting something. They all croak, eventually (just like me).

Thanks, all, for your suggestions. Danny is done, here.

I have the Epson ET-4550 and love it. I have printed nearly 1000 post cards and still on the original inks. Eco tank is the most economical way to go. Canon also makes large tank printers.

How does your 4750 compare to the 3750 now on sale at Costco?
