Raptor in Back Yard

Outside the other day and a large bird lit high up in a tree in my back yard.
Ran and got my 300 mm F4 and got three shots before he left.

Strong back lighting and even with spot metering I had to increase exposure by 2.5 in processing to get the picture.

He must have heard me since his head is turned 180 degrees.

What species of bird is this?

Large Bird

Red-tailed Hawk. They are very alert and skittish and don't like being watched. That is a great photo!
