In addition to TC's, the exact same optical configuration, known as a Barlow Lens, is used in most telephoto lenses, in most telescopes, and often in microscopy.

It has MANY uses.

My reference is strictly to using them on DX lenses to cover FF - THAT's what I am referring to ! - and THAT only.

What is your basis for stating that there are few positive applications for it? This may be your opinion but it is not supported by facts.

OK, YOU tell us all - what these positive photgraphic applications are and the "facts" - please ! - and yes, it is my educated and experienced opinion - and I have no intention of "supporting" it !

OMG (Said slowly)! I just found out two interesting things due to this post. Yes, 1.4x, 2x, and 3x extenders allow my CF (APS-C) Pentax K-mount lenses to be used on a Pentax FF body (K-1 and later) if I ever buy one. Yes, my Pentax digital CF lenses will cover a 35mm Film format when used with a tele-extender. Cool, so my smc-Pentax-DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 Zoom could be used as a "22.4-70mm f/4" on a FF or Film camera, or "32-100mm f/5.6" Zoom Lens. That was the expected finding. But in playing around with my digital lenses I also found that my smc-Pentax-DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited lens on its own cover both APS-C and FF sensors. That was not expected. I had heard that some of the DA* lenses with longer focal lengths do cover both formats as well.

Being able to interchange lens formats this much is at least one thing Pentax has over Canon and even Nikon. From what I read Nikon DX are DX covering lenses only. Though as we've seen here using an extender can allow FX body use as well. Yet many higher end Pentax "digital" lenses have been both "DX" and "FX" all along! Who knew? I've of course been using my vintage Pentax film lenses on my digital cameras as well.

Pentax apparently has a table somewhere showing which "DA" lenses could be reclassified as "DFA", but I've never thought about it because I don't see a K-1 in my budget any time soon.

Thank You , just reminded me there are better things to buy than an iphone 7+ (buying that would put me further away from a k-1).

Anyway I learnt something today a 1.4 Teleconverter can make a dx lens work on an fx sensor.

I Wonder if there is a 1.4 canon eos teleconverter that will accept a EF-S lens?

Seems this question was raised in 2016, it wasn't really resolved.

If you have no intention of supporting your claim, why would you think that you have the right to ask me to support mine?

I think the issue might be that since an EF-S lens will not mount on an EF camera unless you modify the lens, it may be that an EF-S lens will also not mount on a Canon TC.
A couple of years ago, I purchased a Canon extension tube with the intention of using it on a crop sensor camera only to find out that I could mount the extension tube to the camera, but I could not mount my EF-S lenses to the extension tube. Now having said that, it very well may be that a Tamron or Tokina or some other third party TC will accept EF-S lenses. Just saying....

Same here but I do have two K-mount Pentax film cameras, K2 DMD, and a K1000.

It is a fair bet the third party ones would work. For a Canon user with ef-s lenses just upgraded to full frame being able to use ef-s lenses even with the downsides of a teleconverter would be a bonus. Guess field of view would be around the same as on the crop sensor canon.

Yeah, I have a film Pentax Super Program, but it is enjoying semi-retirement, and this seems like a lot of work just to use {modern} DA lenses on occasionally.

Other than mounting a 1.4X lens extender on the camera, what "work" is required to use DA lenses on a full frame camera?

"DA" are Pentax K-mount lenses.
Any K-mount lens can mount on any Pentax camera.
You can mount a "DA" lens directly on FF camera.

If it is a film camera, it will vignette.
If it is the K-1, the camera will go into crop mode.
From the example which started this thread we are thinking that TC might alleviate these affects.
