The iconic Mormon Barn, and quite possibly the most photographed building in America, is for sale. It sits on 1 acre of land being offered for development at $5 million, according to OUTSIDEONLINE.COM. We need to save this building - along with other sructures just up the road. How many of us have photographed Mormon Barn?

And what do you expect here? Donations?

Sorry but this a town's issue.

Stay out unless you enjoy high blood pressure.

I have to admit that I never saw nor heard of it until this moment. Honestly, buildings I care more about are also threatened, and I haven't done anything about them. Is someone who cares going to do something about this one?

5 million for 1 acre? Are they nuts? Think pretty highly of land in middle of nowhere don't they.

Perhaps one needs to learn a little about the Mormon culture, which is, shall we say interesting....

LDS is a unique culture, but seeing or listening to the 'Book of Mormon' would be part of beginning education....

That scene involves a lot more than one acre of land, and I'm guessing it is visible from a public highway. Almost anything anyone would do to "monetize" {make money from} this view would destroy its value - so I don't see any extra value to owning it.

LSD was also part of a different culture and one needs to be still using it to pay such a price for a LDS property that is really not worth much.

Somebody must has mixed up the later... WAIT!!! Its the drug!

We can always use DLS to reach a compromise.

I haven’t been able to verify it for sure, but I think the land in question doesn’t include the historic T. A. Moulton barn. That barn is located a bit north, and is on National Park land. The parcel for sale is a bit south and includes the family house, a modern barn, and guest cabins.

I think the asking price is due to the setting, and the fact that the surrounding land (NPS) will remain undeveloped. Quite a view.

Often a scenic view is scenic because the foreground or background includes land that has been left fallow by the owner. The economics of the thing may change, so we need to capture the views while they are there.

The sale of that parcel shouldn’t effect the view of or from the Moulton barn. It would be nice if the NPS could afford to buy the land and simply add it to the park, but their budget won’t allow that. Hopefully one of the local groups who have bought and donated other land nearby can do the same again, but it will take some fund raising on a large scale.

But wait, neither Utah nor LDS want any government involvement in land management. Maybe the Bundy Charitable Foundation could step in, save the day, and protect it forever!

Ooops, my bad, although the LDS mentality is the same in any of the western states, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, and so on...., no government involvement if it can be avoided.

It's simply a cultural thing...

Geez, I see the potential for an exclusive golf club and course sitting here. Membership dues would easily replace the 5 mil paid for the property and the development of the course. Since the location is already famous, it wouldn't take long to establish a major tournament at the course. By contrast, there was an entire town, Gisela, a bit north and east of Phoenix, Az that was for sale for the same amount. This was a few years ago. It's in a rather secluded location off the road between The Valley and Payson.

My plan for that one, if I had the money at the time, was to purchase the town, declare it an independent and sovereign Principality and declare war on the U.S. Surrender would almost immediately follow and then set up a lucrative foreign aid program to provide income for myself, along with my loyal subjects.
