After 7 years my Dell xps 410 is barely alive. Had a close lightning strike about 3 months ago. I did out of coursity read what would work for me with Photoshop light room and some 4K video from a few posts on the Hog....Let me just state that Ram and Video cards have gotten very expensive. Ram used to be dirt cheap.....The gentlemen seem to be fond of the Acer gaming computer....This is what I found...Lenovo Razor Y900...I7 6th 4GHZ generation processor..GTX 1080 video card 8 gig founders edition....2tb 7200 + 256gig ssd storage...DVD burner....16gigs ram 2133 DDR4.....Card reader.....big cooling fans with washout filters ...4 x USB 3.0..2 x USB 2.0..VGA..HDMI...Ethernet (RJ-45)...PS/2.....ok I spent 3 weeks trying to configure a computer...Hopefully this will work....Dells Alienware if you stick this video card the computer its 5-$600 more. Ram I would like another 16 Gigs but it looks like another $200 or $250 more....Lenovo as Asus as Acer....you cannot configure so I can`t be a kid in a candy shop....It was $1519 and pricing out just the video card its $500 to$800 anyway. Thanks for reading you all have been a pleasure to know....

. I had to abandon my old Toshiba last month. Settled on Lenovo Legion Y520. Costco $900 w 2-yr warrantee. i7 7th generation. card reader but no dvd burner. 15.6”. Gaming machine.
Think this will serve my purposes. Will get some external desktop harddrives now. Appreciated UHH advice and suggestions.

Or you can do what I did. $228 for the desktop on ebay and I bought 16GB of new Kinston RAM on two boards to fill the two slots. At the time it was only $88 for two 8GB boards . Today it would be about $220. Best desktop I ever had.

I have worked as a facilities engineer for 30 years and have moved so many offices hotel lobbies nursing and retirement homes and have seen the largest percentage of systems being Lenovo followed by Dell and HP...trying to configure a Dell was frustrating ...no matter what I configured wether it be a XPS or Alienware or Inspiration I ended up spending hundreds more for lesser hardware....I have always wondered why there is a reason why always so many facilities with one brand.. Anyone remember the Y2K fiasco.......... On the committee for 3 nursing homes....The committee accomplished nothing but the donuts where good and the nurses where fine

OK - - and you got - - what ??
Me - - I build my own. You could have similar - but the 3 video cards in SLI are probably overkill for what you do, as is the unlocked I7
As well as the RAID 5 data drive, SSD Raid 1 system drive, and the dedicated Swap drive

I will be getting a machine with plenty of punch to do what I want to do. Been 7 years since I have had anything new. My son and I built him a gaming system a few years ago. I figure I saved A hundred or so letting Lenovo build it and they will warranty for 3 years. Three video cards that's awesome but I couldn`t even jusitify the need for two...The 1080 8gig card will be great/I 7 /16 gigs of ram (gotten very expensive....not sure why)2tb 7200+256ssd and a Burner..have a second 2tb internal and 3tbs external...lots and lots of 3.0 and a few 2.0 usb...its early and I am up and waiting for the truck...Nice case big fans only wanted liquid cooling but this is going to be fine
Your machine sounds awesome...I would like to try vr...looks like lots of fun....Have a great day
