Rhetorical questions... Do you love them? Do you hate them? What is it you like or dislike about them? And what purpose do they serve?
For that matter, do you even recognize one when you see it?
Rhetorical question: (noun) a question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer.
UHH has always been a place for me to seek out knowledge, or, less frequently, share some of mine. Now I may not be the most conversational man alive (just ask my wife), but I am annoyed by those whose primary objective seems to be to perpetuate his or her threads ad nauseam, while selectively excluding others who represent a threat to the goal from participating in the discussion.
I'm not expecting anything to change (I'm sure the threads drive up traffic), and I'm not even sure I'll participate in this thread once I post it. I've just seen one too many all too recognizable topics in the Main Discussion section and needed to vent. I only hope it proves cathartic.

I'm irritated by any thread topic that takes more than seven or eight words to express.

Stop running after your own tail, it is not responsible for your grief.

Why do you ask and cathartic for whom?

You might be perpetuating the same ‘worthless rhetorical question’ issue, by venting about them.
That said, I agree that they are annoying, and
don’t disagree with your right to vent. Have a better day, Steve.
At least you got a huge chuckle out of me this morning. :)
Those questions don't bother me as long as the OP allows me to ask him/her the exact same question.
At least I know I'm not alone.
Rhetorical questions serve a purpose. But, they should be used with prudence.
Pretty soon Chris T will have to start answering his own questions since he will have put everyone on his ignore list.

I thought he already did, but rhetorical questions don't require an answer do they, so what does this have to do with Chris?

If he is a pro as his bio states his time here would be better spent teaching about his skills and knowledge based on experiences. He does not do this in most of his posts which leads me to believe he is looking for ways to belittle others here through the use of long winded retorical questions. JMO.

If what you say is true, and it might be, there are a lot of people here who enjoy being belittled. So who is sadder? (Rhetorical)
