"Oh Sh*t Moment" ...

The spousal unit and I went to the PA Auto Show today ... as I was getting out of a very nice F150 my camera fell from my lap to the floor ...
I had been using a Op/Tech Wrist Strap and had taken the camera off to play with the controls in the truck. All I could think of was 'new camera time' ... to my surprise the camera worked fine the rest of our stay ... when I got home I gave it a 'CSI check' and could not find a mark on it.

The floor, that looked like tile, must have been some kind of camera loving material ... audible sigh of relief ...

Glad the spill did not harm your gear Bob.

Lucky you man. I was in Costa Rica when tropical storm Hank hit there, it was pretty bad, and tripped while crossing a storm swollen stream and my 5 month old 80D took about a 5 second dunk. Canon say "not economically feasible to repair". However after about 3 months I put a battery in it an d it does seem to work, I did purchase a refurb 80D to replace it, so I'll have to do some testing with the drowned one and see if it can be a backup.

Spousal unit? Is that the politically correct term for wife/husband

Maybe she refers to him as a life support system for a limp something or other.

If your camera gets dunked, as quick as you can, pull the battery. If you can get it out before the internals get wet then it will be just a matter of drying it out.

My wife bought me an 80D for Christmas. I love it. Thanks for reminding me that it is water resistant and not water proof.

I did almost try that ... when I checked the photos at home, some of the after "The Crash" photos were a little out of focus ... checked everything out again, took some test shots, everything checked out ... !

Then I remembered that I was walking around with a bag of nuts and one of the world famous "Pennsylvania State Farm Show Milkshakes" trying to get some grab shots ...

A term left over from my Army days! The ID cards use to read "dependent" ... not a good word to a great many people, including my wife who told me and everybody else, that she was not dependent on anyone ... so it was finally changed to "spouse" ... all the dependents felt better about that ...

Yeah I immediately pulled the battery. I bought a large bag of rice on the way back to the resort and placed the camera and lens in the rice until we got back tot he states.
