Has anyone taken this on line class? if so how does it work exactly? Do you just watch videos and try to do it yourself? I am looking for some guidance for the best class to take i am debating with kelby and proud photography i want some instruction and critique for my photos and wondered if kelby does that?
With kelby you watch videos and there is a place to ask questions. Photos are not critiqued.
Better photo and Bryan Peterson's photo school have interaction with instructors, but their courses cost $200 for 4 weeks and $400 for 8 week courses.
I haven't used his course's other than videos but I understand it's quite good.
I was enrolled in NYIP (New Your Institute of Photography) back in the late 60's early 70's (if I recall correctly) and they are still around. Must be doing something right.

Also Bryan Peterson has some great classes...

I'd second the vote for Peterson's classes on PPSOP. If you're just getting started his class called Understand Exposure is excellent. Much of it is in his book of the same name, but the class is a really good foundation.
I love Kelby. The instructors are amazing. Everything for the beginner and the advanced user. I shrink the instructional window and work in Lightroom/Photoshop simultaneously. Also, lessons live forever so if you ever need to revisit, it's there. Although Bryan Peterson is an amazing photographer, I find Kelby and Joe McNally better teachers. For the price of a couple Statbucks a month, it's a great deal.
For free, check out Adoramatv.com Mark Wallace is good too.

I have a year long subscription to Kelby and also one to Lynda.com. Lynda.com is company sponsored. Kelby is excellent, but I found I prefer lynda.com.
I just started Kelby. I went to "beginner" and then "Ourdoor Lifestyle Photography. This is a collection of about 15 different videos that are 3 minutes to 9 minutes in length. I watch one, then watch it again and take notes. I am liking this course...very informative. I WISH it was set up in an order where it said "Start here", but I think that might be impossible because they are constantly adding to it.
Good luck!

I'm with you there consume as much as you can.
BTW, I had family in Bergenfield/Dumont/New Milford/Cresskill. Love that area had lots of happy times there growing up and in my earlier days. Unfortuantely, all have either passed away or moved west on I-80. Haven't been to Bergen County now in over 3 years..........longest I've ever not visited there.
What's nice about kelby and lynda is that you pay $25 for the month, and you can watch videos 24/7. Any topic they have is included in that small fee.
Steco 52> I grew up in New Milford, then Dumont and now in Bergenfield. You now are where I used to frequent often, Mass, Vermont mostly. We probably know each other, if 52(in your screen name) is the year you were born (me 51) we probably do know each other..

Check your private message. Just gave you the family history, you just may know us.
I understand Kelby wants an annual commitment, which would be $300.
Having the following gear, which likely won't change much anytime soon, would I get enough content for one year to justify the cost? Don't want to buy more gear at this time, so, for example, flash or studio lighting courses would be useless to me at this time.
Canon Rebel XS /1000D
Two entry? level Canon lenses covering 18mm-250mm
Some accessories
Lightroom
Photoshop Elements
Nik
I consider myself intermediate to slightly advanced.

This may help too.
Taken the Proud Photography course - FYI you do get critique. Got it on sale on a holiday sale. I think it was $99.
Watched the Great Courses course, Fundamentals of Photography, on DVD - FYI got that on sale, not for $234. I think mine was about $80.
Read several books and watched several videos.
Gotten tips here :-)
One thing to note: you can "rent" any Kelby course for $6.95 US for 3 days....plenty of time to watch a video series several times through.
I've done it a few times and have been pleased with the quality of the teaching.
You don't have to be a member to do it.
