Nikon D 80 Repair

Hello photo friends. I have a D80 with a non-working LED back screen. Otherwise excellent condition. Is it worth repairing? My local store would not accept it on trade saying it was useless; I do not necessarily trust them. I have a new DSLR but I hate to just throw this away as it would be good as a backup. Any ideas?

Maybe but probably not cost effective. Do a Google search for LED back screen repair for a range of costs.

See: < https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nikon+D80+Rear+LCD+Screen+Replacement/99907 > to get an idea of what's involved in its replacement; they don't mention cost of parts and labor. On eBay, the camera itself runs less than $100 for the body and accessories, maybe even including the box. You could also sell your body for parts; one such body has a $13.50 bid so far.

I have one too that just died. It appears OK upon startup but I get an error message when I press the shutter.

Have you tried a camera reset? See instructions. Cheers! Ed

A non working LED/LCD screen is not anything I would be happy about. I suggest you get it repaired, if it is worth repairing. If the repair cost is unreasonable, buy another camera. Sell the non working camera to eBay for parts. Get at least a little money on it. Yes, it is sometimes difficult to part with our toys. Because of our attachment to them.

I use an old D80 as a backup camera and it still provides very good service. It's always in the trunk of the car. Recently saved me a long trip when I was out near the Ocala National Forest and my primary camera decided to just quit.
Would be more cost effective to just buy a used body as the D80 has not much value in the current market.

KEH is selling used D80s at $139. They're probably cheaper on ebay. This tells you a repair is probably a waste of money as you won't get it done for less than $100. Buy another used replacement that is fully operational or resign yourself to shopping for a new camera.

They say it's a 20-minute job. That seems optimistic. As you said, getting a replacement might be a better decision.

I had the an error message problem with my D80 and sent to these guys: https://www.fantastecne.com/. A couple of weeks later I had a fully repaired, inspected and recalibrated D80 for $95.00. Check them out.
