WD40 is used to cover the skin of rockets in silo to keep them from oxidation that where it came from.

The monocoup Atlas rockets were the recipients of the WD-40 "body oil".

I agree. If the polarizer is not sealed and the oil gets in between the glass layers where the polarizing grating is, the filter will be affected. The oil will be extremely hard to remove from between the two pieces of glass without damaging the grating. And oil has a different refractive index compared to air or the glass if you don't remove it. In other words, one could make their unsealed polarizer junk by using oils.

I had the same issue with an 82MM B+W. Sent it back to them, they fixed it and had it back to me in a week. You might check with the manufacturer of yours and see what they can do.
