My 2nd attempt...I haven't really played around with photo manipulation. It took me all day to figure out how to do this...which I know already is simple compared to some spheres I have seen on here...:) Don't laugh...I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks...

my only problem is it looks more like a vignette than a sphere ....

Yes, it had a defining edge at first, but then I lost it....

Well then, trace your steps back so that you find out how you lost it. I cannot do that so it really is up to you there.

If you intend to make small sphere and use them in a composite image, save each of the sphere as a document and use them as a document layer instead of loading them as a normal pixel layer. The advantage is that you will not lose a single pixel when downsizing the spheres...

Note: I use PS CC so my information may not be valid if you use another software.

thank you for the tip...it did help to go back..I just had not save the other one so I started over...and turned out with something I liked more...

The sphere effect seems to work best when there's a continuous outline round the outer edge of the sphere and the contents of the sphere is different from the background. In your posted image the inside of the sphere is merging with the background, making it look more like a vignette and weakening the desired effect.
