One of the most important features of Lightroom for me is the ability to handle multiple photos in batches. I just finished a shoot where I took almost 700 photos and needed to out put jpegs for the participants. With most other programs it would have taken me way too much time to process the photos and download the jpegs.

I'm using CS6. I tried CC but didn't find anything that made it better for me than CS6 so I chose not to upgrade. I also didn't have much use for Bridge or Lightroom. I shoot about a dozen or two pics at a time. Pick the best one to post process and usually delete the rest. Not sure if there is a big difference between CS5 and CS6.

"Affinity" - I think that I shall give that a try....

Currently I am making use of Photoshop CS-5 (no LR) ... After Up-Loading from my memory card, I use Adobe "bridge", and open the RAW files into Camera RAW to do my "Pre-Edits". Then open with CS-5 and use NIK Software to do most of my edits, and CS-5 to crop and finish, and or resize for the final print (and jpg for posting) . Two different types of images = One for printing (TIF) and the other (jpg - with "watermark) for posting anywhere on-line.

I store the Out of Camera RAW files in a separate portable Hard-Drive, and the prints to another, long with the "postable" jpg's.... Noting is kept on my computer as I leave that for the Work and Creativity of the images.

I tried LR and just would not get my head around it - and Tried to for over a Month... Did not really have the time to learn another program that did essentially the same thing I was doing without LR... I purchased LR when one could still buy it on a DVD..... I gave it to my son and he likes it and uses it. (Good for him - and got me "off the hook" for thinking of a good birthday gift... (Josh = if you are reading this, now you know.)

LR is a good "Cataloging System" with a RAW editor wrapped into it.... I just would rather make photographic images - than take the time to learn something that I was doing good anyway.

((Thank You "Elliott937" for posting about the Affinity editor.))

I have a friend / Photographer who makes use of CS-6... I have not worked on his computer = However = The way it 'looks' and they way it 'acts' while I am watching him work, I can not really see the difference.

Perhaps there are a few things that I am not seeing and or that he has not make use of?

Ah, but there is quite a difference, James. I use PS CC 2018 and I went back to do something in CS6 and it was slow, crude and things like creating masks were much less refined, and sharpening, correcting for movement, content aware operations, etc etc etc where slower and much less efficient. But I also use LRCC as my basis for importing and cataloging images, and moving images to several other programs that I routinely use.

I too had issues at first with LR - having used Bridge, an image browser, the catalog completely confounded me. One weekend I locked myself in a room with a bottle of claret, and emerged with an empty bottle and a good working knowledge of LR. I just had to drill into my thick and stubborn skull that LR is not an image browser. Once I disconnected the two concepts it made total sense.

I am now experiencing some similar issues with Capture One, which I use exclusively for my Sony RX10M4 simply because it is faster and better than LR for Sony's arw raw files. The file management in Capture One is twofold - you can add images to a catalog, or you can create a "session" - in either case before you can edit an image you have to enter it into one or the other. It works, but it is different from Lr, and a bit less intuitive, mainly because they use a very different lexicon for many tasks.

In December I traveled to Ireland and had to deal with a different "lexicon" of sorts - driving on left, steering wheel on the right, stick shift with left hand, and trying to navigate a round about (traffic circle) - like everything else, eventually I figured it out and survived the experience.

I could try that "Learning Process"....

However I am a Ale and Single Scotch drinker = In my past I was a sort of heavy drinker = And I would do some very embarrassing things. (According to society).

I fear that After I would drink the bottle (Not just the head and shoulders off the bottle - all of it.) I might emerge alone with nothing learned, a smashed up computer, and a horrible pissed-off look.

I do not mind if the method that I am using is S L O W ... Gives me time to think about what I am doing. ((Remember - I am a Large Format trained photographer, so slow is a good thing ;-) ))

I do usually agree with you - and your advice to me and all the others here on the UHH - AND being perhaps more stubborn than you, I do believe that, that process will not be good for me....

I do thank you.

Remember - You can ONLY Teach others Who Want To Learn. :-)
