Welcome to the Hog. Give your wife a big and a kiss. The Rebel line is a great starting place. I started with the Rebel XTi and the basic 55m lens. My wife still uses it. Her walk around lens is a Tamron 24-55. She also "steals " my L lenses. Bottom line, nice camera and great starting point.
