Recently someone in this forum discussed the virtues of a hand strap but I cannot find the post. I am looking for a good quality hand strap for large SLRs and would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Go to Joby.com and look under products/camera straps. I like the hand strap with the ultra plate. It works well with a larger Nikon like a D300 or D800. The plate has a hole on the bottom so you can mount the camera on a tripod without taking the strap off.

I have a Vello leather hand strap that I purchased from B&H Photo.
It works great!

I purchased three of the hand straps from Cotton Carrier. I liked them because the padded part was large and comfortable for my arthritic hands carrying heavy bodies and my long lens.

One to consider might be the very well-designed, highly flexible leather (and other materials) Spider Pro hand strap.
It is available in a variety of colors for about $75 from major vendors.

There are about a bizzilion different brands out there, but the challenge is finding one that is comfortable enough for holding a large camera and won’t fail when it is really needed.

I got one from http://www.gordyscamerastraps.com and love it. It keeps the camera secure and feels great. You can somewhat customize it.

Peak Design. The anchors attach to the camera and then it is a breeze to change out a neck strap for a hand strap / clutch etc. They even have anchor links that attach to any regular camera strap and will then connest to the Peak anchors. However the Peak straps are so nice you will probably want to get one in addition to your hand strap.
See the new anchor links here.

Love these. I'm going to order the tripod strap as I have a peak design neck strap.

I also have one of those for my little camera. They’re wonderful, after you break them in.
